Well, notebook BIOS aren't like desktop ones...you cannot overclock laptops. The dv6000 does support Core 2, but you'll void your warranty in the process.

In most all cases, the Core Duo's are more than powerful enough...what's going on that you need so much? Maybe we can help you get it working even though OCing isn't possible.

The thing about my laptop the dv6103nr is that it's a core solo. So, all I really want is a little more juice so I don't have worry about anything. I already upgraded it to 2gigs of ram. I'm just one of those people that like to push things just to see where it goes.

From a Core Solo upgrading to a Core 2 Duo is pretty much the best option. I would suggest either the T5600 or T7200 depending on your budget. HP has detailed instructions in the service manuals available on their website including the steps required to access the prcocessor. It is quite an involved process and you will have to dismantle the notebook and will void any warranties....

one thing to note when your taking the laptop apart.. be careful wtih all of the flex cable connectors. they can break relatively easily. and if they do happen to fall apart (the latch breaks off), dont freak out. nearly all of these sockets can still be locked even with a partially broken latch, or if your really lucky, the latch just fell apart and you can put it back together.

Wait. Can this laptop even take a core 2 duo. because right now it's only a core solo and i thought it could only go up to core duo

It should definately be possible. Core 2 Duo is socket compatible with the Core Duo and the BIOS(latest version) should also be compatible since the dv6103/08nr is just a pre-configured version of the dv6000t series which has the C2D option.

No doubt! really?! wow. that'll really make this thing fly. I've already plugged in 2 gigs of ram into it. but even when i'm playing guild wars the cpu is running max so i'm looking for a way to change that.

Thats probably due to the Intel graphics more than anything else. The graphics processor is the most important part when it comes to gaming & upgrading the cpu wont help much to improve the performance. Unfortunately the GPU cannot be upgraded, so you are stuck with the one you have.

So even though I have posted in this forum about the dv6103nr possible upgrade I didnt notice this thread. I just downloaded the pdf that instructs how to take the the laptop apart. The funny thing is I took it apart two days ago and put a t5600 into it replacing the core solo. Since then I have taken it apart about 10 times. Everytime I would put it back together I would notice a loud fan , keyboard not working 100% and the mouse pad not working. Today I said screw it and gave it to a friend who runs a shop to put it back together. Murphys Law I find the guide on this forum.

To upgrade the processor you have to take it completly apart. The dv6103nr works very well with the T5600 core 2 duo 1.83, just know what your doing before you open that sucker up.
