What is the process to hooking up my dv6245ca laptop to my Sony SXRD HDTV? I believe I have a 4-pin S-Video cable, which the same input my TV has. However, my laptop has a 7-pin set-up.

I remember the one time I tried this, when I hooked it up to my TV, it was squished. It wasn't taking up the whole screen. It wasn't HD! There also wasn't any audio coming from the TV, only from the laptop speakers. I guessing it's because of the 4-pins, right?

Do I just need a 7-pin cable, and that's it, or do I need a converter because the TV is 4-pins? Also, do I need something else for the audio to come from the TV?

If someone could help me out or point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated!

S-Video cables only contain the video portion of a signal never audio.

A standard, everyday, 4-pin S-Video cable is all you need, the other 3 pins will not be used by your TV. The maintenance and service manual for your notebook will show the signals on the other 3 pins but don't be concerned about them.

Any distortion of the video signal on the TV display is how the TV is setup and the screen size parameters as setup within your notebook graphics display settings. You will have to experiment to obtain the best picture. I am assuming you do not have an HDMI output on your notebook.

Sometimes it is difficult to get these new HD TV's to display a correct picture.

The TV's internal circuitry is also manipulating the input signal to try and get the best fit on the screen based on the pixel content of the source you are feeding it.

To get the audio to your TV you will need to hook up an adapter cable from the headphone out jack to the TV.

Ok, a bit of an update:

I tried the S-Video cable again, and I just couldn't get it to display as a proper HD picture. So, as any guy dreads, I looked at the owner's manual for my HD TV!

There, it says, under "Connecting the TV to a PC", use a "HD15-HD15" cable and connect it to the "PC IN" section on the back of the TV. Now, the thing is, the connection the back of the TV has those two screw-in things on both side along with the pins, while the connection of the side of my laptop does not have the screw-in portion of the connection. Is that going to be a problem? Has anyone successfully hooked up their laptop to a HD TV using an HD15-HD15 (analog RGB) cable?
