mainly size... the 2500 is a 14" and the 6500 is a 15.4". and imo the hp's are very slim and small if it were me id go for the 6500 personally its only a tiny bit bigger then the 2500 is..

Why do you ask us this? Go over to the HP website and write down all the specs for the 6500, then go and write down the specs of the 2500. Then look at the two and compare their specs. Not that hard to do on your own.

Adinu, true but I also find the specs are missing a few details...Major diff is video memory when configured with dedicated (128mb on the 6500 and 64mb on the 2500), gigabit on the 6500, 10/100 on the 2500 (i think) and support for HD drive on the 6500, not sure on the 2500 as its not listed as such. Both do come with HDMI when configured with the dedicated graphics...(2500 one less USB port as the HDMI takes it)...abot all I remember..

VRAM isn't much of a difference. The performance of the two 8400m GS's are the same.

I would beg to differ, if you check the 3dmark scores of the two laptops reviewed with the same specs, one is the dv2500t and the other is the dv6500t, you will see that the 8400m gs w/ 128 mb dedicated vram performs BETTER than the 8400m w/ 64 mb dedicated vram.
    6500t:

    2500t:
    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3778&review=HP+Pavilion+dv2500t

both have the same specs except for screen size (2.0 gHz c2d, 2 gb ram, 120gb 5400rpm drive)

and in response to the original poster:

i would go for the 6500t as it has a larger screen, more usb ports, better performance, and is $60-100 cheaper depending on what kind of coupon you use.
and if your main concern is the potential for added battery life due to a smaller screen, have no fear! the 6500t offers slightly less battery life than the 2500t, however the extra 20-30 minutes per charge is not worth $60-100 premium, and having to sacrifice screen size and performance.

(weight is similar as well, just a .8 lb diff between the two)
I have considered BOTH of these notebooks so naturally i did my homework and read as many reviews as i could, you should consider reading them as well.

3DMark is a synthetic benchmark. We've gone over it many times in the gaming forum: the difference of 64 Mb on a weak card like the 8400m GS isn't going to make a frame rate difference in real-world gaming.

A 200 point difference in a benchmark is very insignificant. So the difference is not that big at all between the two. If you run the benchmark several times, you will get slightly different #s, and with that discrepancy, the difference in scores will be even less.

mainly its the size. for more portability (light weight, easier to carry) get the 2500.
