i recently received a dv6500t and wanted to update the hard drive. the current hdd is a wd scorpio 120 gb 5400 rpm. the one i purchased was a hitachi travelstar 7k200 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822145160). i ran into a problem: the way in which they connect to the computer. the scorpio has vertical bars that slide into the current slot, but the hitachi has flat, horizontal pieces that obviously do not slide into the current structure. is there a way to make it work or do i need to purchase a new one? how can i tell whether or not it will fit?

HP uses an adaptor(along with the bracket) to attach the HDD to the motherboard. So, you will have to pull the adaptor out from the old and plug it on to the new one.

Also make sure you take off the HDD cradle off of the old HDD and install it onto the new one.
