I'm new at this so please bear with me...

I just purchased a dv6500t with 1gb ram and a 120gb hdd. I want to upgrade my ram and my hard drive. Would these be compatible?
    ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231135
    hard drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145160

If they are, could i just create a recovery dvd from the original hard drive and use that on the hitachi without any issues? or could i just load an oem copy of vista on the new hard drive?

Yes they are compatible. You should make the recovery discs as soon as you get your notebook and then use them on the new drive. A new Vista disc should work, but you may have activation issues.

I don't know what kind of Vista disc you have so it's kind of hard for me to say. Consult the service manual on HP's site to see how to do the upgrades.
