I'm running a stripped version of Windows XP SP2 Professional (installer 146MB) and a custom shell (200KB) to replace Windows Explorer. My laptop is set up as follows:

    T7300 Santa Rosa 2.0GHz
    2GB RAM
    nVidia 8400M GS

With DirectX set to 8.0 and all settings low, bilinear filtering, and bumpmap and specular off, the Video Stress Test gave me *152 FPS* at 1280*800.

With testing on de_dust2 and no other players, I was able to reach over 500 FPS with resolution at 960*600.

Hope this helps, I can give more detailed info if you want.
Just wanted to give an idea of the performance in CSS of this 8400M GS.

Now do a regular installation and see what the difference is.

You can make your own custom Windows installation with nLite. I'm using one made by someone else, got it a LONG time ago.

Actually, looking into corners will get my FPS up to about 600 on dust2.

I found that the card is good enough to handle 1280*800 at high settings with 4x Anisotropic and still get 70-150FPS in-game.

^LOL yeah and it's CS Source too.

But I realized that for the custom "960*600" res I thought I was getting, I was actually playing on 640*480. So those numbers are for 640 by 480 res, NOT anything higher.

But it still gives GREAT performance in CSS, which is amazing to me, coming from an AGP 9600XT.
