    AMD Athlon 64 X2 TK55, NVIDIA GeForce 7150M, 1GB, 120GB

I've found a good deal on this computer in my country and looking to buy it perhaps. I am abit concerned though about heat and noise. I currently have a Compaq with an AMD TL-52 and NVIDIA nForce Go 430/Geforce Go 6150 I bought just last year and it runs hot even when idling (vista itself+norton runing). The heat doesn't disturb me as much as it's consequences - the fan speeds up and down every other minute- It is seldome if ever completely off or hard to hear. This is quite annoying and I wouldn't want to get something like that again. Also I couldn't control the fan via NHC or speedfan which I'd like to be able to do.

So, if you have experience with this particular model or a simular one (dv6615 just seems to have 1gb extra ram) please lend me some hints about heat issues, noise levels when idle and doing light work (coding, writing documents, browsing the web with some amount of flash ... ), and what you can or cannot control with the likes of nhc, rmclock, speedfan.

    Thanks!

Check for an updated BIOS for your computer that came out in late November or early December. Try running HP update first. A number of these were released to combat the heat problem.

Think I tried updating the bios not too long ago, but maybe not as late as early december. I see now that the latest update (F.1F for compaq presario F500/F545ea) mention "Updates the fan control algorithm of the system to reduce the likelihood of future system issues.", which sounds like it might make me abit happier, or less! Hopefully this means the fan can stay at the same speed (probably higher than before but still reasonably quiet) for longer periods of time under higher stress. Somehow I doubt it though. But I will definitely try. If I remember correctly the fan currently kicks into high gear at 50c and low gear at 40c, and it takes about 5 minutes idling to get it from 40c to 50c and about 1 minute to go from 50c to 40c.

    Thanks for the notice!
