I have a DVD music video on my C:// folder. For some stupid reason, QuickPlay doesn't play it; when I get it to play it, it's too slow and there's no sound. QP sucks anyway. The same DVD can be played perfectly with VLC media player, but I can't control it with the included remote.

Is there another free dvd player that I can control the the HP remote? Or is there a way to link the remote with VLC media player?

Setting the global hotkeys for vlc player will make the remote work. Sadly, I don't know where or how to set it. You could try using mplayerc 6.40.1. It takes no more than 5Mb and doesn't require installation, just drag and it will play most stuff. The dvd probably cant play due to missing codec that quickplay doesn't have for that media.

the mini-remote will work with WMP and winamp. You have to enable global hotkeys in winamp

Yeah, but VLC's better. You should try to get those keys working, and it shouldn't be too hard. The play, pause, etc. buttons on the remote have the same keycode as those at the top of the keyboard, and they're detected in Linux, so you should be able to create software to control it. I'm not sure if anything like that exists already, though.
