I just got a dv6t delivered to me yesterday, and I have to tell you, I think it is the worst computer I have ever owned.
I had just gotten a dv5t, and 2 days later, they came out with the dv6t and a 30% off coupon. For me, it sounded great b/c I could get the integrated keypad, which I was really missing when I got the dv5t, and I could add in the fingerprint reader, lightscribe, and Office and only spend 14 bucks more than I did on the dv5t with the new coupon.
Here's the issues. Mainly, the screen. It is a washed out, foggy, hot mess. Everything is so pale on the screen. The whites are too white and it makes things difficult to read. Loggin into gmail, you have to squint to see the boxes in which you enter your password.
I am not a techhie, so I brought it to work for a friend of mine who is an IT guy to see if he could adjust the screen or anything. After 45 minutes, he came back and told me that the resolution is crap to begin with, and that this is as good as it will get.
Also, the webcam, for whatever reason, produces much darker images than the dv5t does.
Add to that a decrease of about 13% in battery life b/t it and the dv5t, and I can't get the thing back to HP fast enough.
Of course, the dv5t is no longer available, so I'm screwed there. I talked to them about doing and exchange and having them apply the coupon I used to a dv7t, and they refused! That's so funny to me. So I asked the lady if she realized that because they won't accept the coupon code that I had, I will simply return the computer and they will get NONE of my business, as opposed to taking the deal, having me spend another hundred bucks, and making a sale? She said they won't do it, so it's off to dell.com for me.

    Man, that sucks.

Maybe the screen is defective, try sending it into HP for repair of the screen.

Just because a resolution is low, it shouldnt be foggy and washed out. Try increasing brightness too. ;)

Make sure it's set to the maximum possible resolution. And if you have an NVIDIA graphics card, go into the NVIDIA control panel and try to adjust the color settings.

Thanks. I did try the brightness, and upping it makes it worse for some reason.
I was actually thinking about sending it back to have them at least take a look at it, being as it's a new model and maybe they don't have everything down pat on it, but the customer service ticked me off so much refusing to work with me, that they obviously don't really value my business, so I'm just going to use my employee discount plan with dell (minimal though it is) and get one of theirs.

Yeah, did you try calling more than once? ANd mentioning you are going to return it and go to Dell?

It could be worth a shot to try at least (to get it looked at). ;)

Usually, the extra price of business laptops gets you better sales and customer service. They are also of better quality, generally, but there is a non-zero chance of getting problems with any model.

My Dell is great, and the sales and customer service has been top quality so far.

I did tell them that before, but I am going to talk to somebody right now and let them know that I am about to drop this thing at FedEx in 30 minutes if they won't help me out. We'll see what they say.
    Not holding breath.

Well that was quick. They very efficiently told me that they would not accept my 11 day old coupon on an exchange, nor did they have a different coupon code that I could use. They did offer me 5% off and 2 day shipping (which I had anyway).
And they wonder why their stock is down over 30% this year....

What are the system specs? If you got an Intel powered unit with X4500MHD adjusting the gamma may make a world of difference. My G50 (the "entry level" 15.4WS) looked like hot mess until I fixed the gamma. From what I've seen this problem is prevalent in all Intel graphics equiped HPs.

Wow. I guess I won't be getting that keypad on my dell. Do you seriously have to get an XPS M1730 for the lowest priced laptop with a keypad?

Why should they give you a 30% off coupon for a dv6 on a dv7?

Because the coupon was good on on 6ts or 7ts, and a couple other models as well. I priced out both models before I bought, and thought that for what I needed, the 6 would be suitable and save me some cash.
It's not like I was asking them to give me something that never existed.

    What is a keypad exactly?

Also, as for dell, I never liked them either... however, my friend has a dell inspiron laptop that he's had for 6-7 years! And it still works. He uses it daily for school.

However, I'm still an HP fan... never had a problem with them. Hopefully never will. They seem to be hit or miss... I have heard really bad things about their customer service.

I call it a keypad. You know, the set of number keys to the right of the regular keyboard that looks like a calculator...
