    Hi,

I just received my new dv6t quad edition. The computer is great except one thing that's driving me crazy is the keyboard. Since there is a numeric keypad on the right side, the keyboard and touchpad are not centered to the screen. I find this to feel very awkward.

Anyone else have this issue with the machine? I know the addition of the keypad is not new to this model. It's just new to me.

    Thanks,
    Gary

    Humm,

Might take you a little time to adapt to it, but depending on what you do with your computer, it's nice to have a full keyboard.
    Enjoy that Quad!

this is the case on all the larger laptops, including my dv7t. someone mentioned this a while back but i dont think it's an issue. as a rightie, it is actually better placed closer to the left so that way you're elbow isn't sort of in the air if that makes any sense. you can rest your entire arm on your desk and use the keypad quite comfortably.

but i wouldn't know about that - i've been using a vx nano external mouse for over a year now and absolutely love it!

I actually like the off-centered touch-pad but being a lefty is works in my favor.

You will get used to it - you are experiencing exactly what i experienced when i had my first 17 inch (although i may be biased since i wanted a numeric keypad really badly)

Yup you'll get used to it. My DV5 has a centered touchpad, my DV9700 has it offset to the left. I can work with both of them without issues.

Keep in mind that the touchpad is offset so that your palm doesn't hit it while typing.

I've used the offset keyboard format forever, and I love it, though I can do just fine with a centered keyboard too.

I've been on this board for about a year now, and this is the first time I've seen a thread on this issue, and I'm so happy to hear comments about the offset mousepad, cause I chose the dv5t over the dv7t because I didn't think I could get used to it --- I'm very glad to hear that I'm not the only one who had issues with this --- and it's good that you all are ok with it or getting used to it!

I think it makes far more sense to have the touch pad off center than to have it centered on a laptop with a full keyboard. Your right hand doesn't rest on the number pad when doing normal everyday typing, so this way the touchpad is centered between your two hands when typing instead of under your right hand. You would be bumping into it all the time if it was centered.

It is also easier for me because I can just slide my hand down a little bit, use the touchpad, and then go right back to typing. Unless all you do is number crunching, this seems to make a lot more sense.
