I've had my dv6t for a few months now and as I've been using it, I've encountered quite a few situations that give problems and/or cause me to have to shut down in order to make the computer work again. I use the switchable graphics (which is really nice) however, sometimes when I wake the laptop from sleep (after just unplugging it), the graphics will not switch automatically and cannot be switched until the computer is restarted. Other times after sleep, the entire computer freezes and must be manually powered off and rebooted to even function. Has anyone else had these or similar quirks with the switchable graphics? For me, I like the idea, but it's very unreliable.

Nope, I have no problems with my switchable.
I wasn't able to reproduce your problem.

Have you tried updating your graphics drivers?

They are the latest versions as posted on HP's website. I've seen the tips of trying to reinstall the drivers which I haven't done yet. However, I will do that if nothing else seems to work. I was just curious if this was common behavior with the official drivers.

Did you uninstall the old driver before installing the new one?

Did you update the BIOS past F06??

This issue was also resolved by BIOS update.

Well, I've tried to reinstall over the past couple hours but ran into serious issues. I followed the steps to uninstall the drivers and use DriverSweeper, but when I went back into my desktop to install the drivers, I was presented with a blank screen (backlight off) which would never turn on. I had to manually shut it down with the power button. The only way I could get it working was to go into safe mode (graphics did work here) and use system restore. It has been a major pain. Now I have installed the drivers again, but for some reason Catalyst Control Center didn't install and now I can't access graphics options/switch graphics. Any ideas? A better way to reinstall graphics drivers without borking my computer?

Edit: Yes, BIOS is up to date.

Edit 2: It looks as though CCC is installed as I can see it in the start menu, however it is not running and when I try to launch it, nothing happens.

Oops I forgot to tell you after you remove the driver, the default display is the VGA port until you go to safe mode. You need an external monitor to see and install. They will not install in safe mode. I couldn't figure out the command line complete console install for AMD driver... Sad :( Why they removed it back in 9.0+.

Please redo the steps of what you did to install.

An update: It is working, though I've had to jump through many obstacles. Whenever I tried to uninstall the drivers, ATI Uninstall Manager would crash during the uninstallation and the drivers wouldn't be completely uninstalled. Then after running driver sweeper, the drivers wouldn't install correctly. However, by dumb luck or something, I was able to successfully uninstall the drivers, run driver sweeper, and install the drivers and all seems to be working.

Now my fingers are crossed that all of this hooplah solves my initial problem in the first place.

    Thanks for the help!
