    Hey guys,

    I had a question to ask. I just got a dv6t quad 9 cell and am quite happy with its performance, hence my drive to make an effort to preserve it this way.

    I had a question on how should one use the battery. In my last vaio, I always had it plugged in and within 5 months the battery could not hold for 15 minutes and shut off with a weird click sound.

    Should one charge the battery and let it discharge and keep doing this or is it advisable to charge the battery fully and use it plugged in?

    I understand leaving it plugged in might have consequences of it heating up etc and you should remove battery altogether if doing intensive gaming. But the thing is, the HP 9 cell has a charging life span of 300 cycles, so if I continually charge to 100% then discharge, I would essentially be using up the cycles it has. So what is the best way to go about it if I want to have this run for a long time? I usually use it as a desktop and travel occassionally

    I would charge the battery fully and if you're plugged in, just take the battery off until you need to use it.

    you should charge it to around 40- 60% and take it out, not charge it fully.
    that's what the battery experts say

    i was thinking about this recently, and i wonder if wrapping aluminum foil on the hidden part of the battery would shield it from heat coming from the chassis, since heat kills battery life

    Had mine plugged in all the time and yeah, you should not charge it fully if u planning to take it out for a long time.

    @Acid9

    and your battery is working good even after having keeping it plugged in all the time?

    If its fully charged and plugged in, and you dont do much gaming to heat up your system, is that also fine? since I read somehwere that once its fully charge the power just diverts from teh battery to the power source

    Never let it die on you. Always charge it when it gets to 3-4% and if you cant , turn it off so it still has a tiny bit of juice when you begin charging.

    A battery will always lose its capacity as it ages and all you can really do is buy a new one when you current one goes bad.

    I plug my laptop all the time, after 8 months the battery wear level is 41% and I get maximum 2 hours of battery. :(
