Hi folks. I am trying to disassemble my laptop to redo the thermal paste. I have a pavilion dv6t-3100, product number: ww142av. I have the manual (c02657339). On page 65 it has an arrow pointing to a "keyboard release switch". I absolutely cannot find it. I have used strongs lights and magnification. I'm guessing the graphic is wrong and it should be pointing elswhere. I am positive this is the correct manual. Can someone help me? Thanks.

It is in the battery compartment just to the right of the pins that connect the battery

Thanks for the reply Shasta. I still don't see it. I have attached a photo below. It is as viewed from the back, so I assume that it would be on the left in this photo. The only thing on the left is the latch for the battery. On the right is a blank area. I even peeled up the labels a bit to see if it were hidden under there. I apologize for the fuzzy picture. I don't have my camera with me; this was taken with my phone.

On mine the latch is on the right in your picture it would be the top right. It looks to be there in your picture

Thanks again for the reply. I am still having trouble seeing it. There are two catches for the battery. One is clearly visible in the photo, about 3/4 of an inch to the left of the pins. the other catch for the battery is to the right, just at the edge of the photo. between that and the pins is a blank area of plastic that is part of the cover. Other than the battery latches there is nothing else movable in that area. Do you have this same laptop?

No I have a dv7
Directly to the right of the battery pins in where the battery goes there is that little square indent
it is the top right in your picture not on the back of the laptop but in the battery compartment
it is very small compared the the latch on the back for the battery -
at the tip of the match head is my latch

Thanks again for your involvement. Many times someone will post a question only to be ignored. In spite of what the book says, my laptop does not have a latch. whoever was the technical writer must have messed up. I got it apart, and did the thermal paste. I carefully examined the backside of the keyboard once I got it out. There is no place a latch would hook into. It was only held in by the screws. Thanks again, and happy computing.
