Well, after having issues with this laptop for a while now i finally figured the hard drive was failing and needs replacement.
I was just wondering, has anyone donde this? would getting a SSD be better? Is this possible? Has anyone tried it?

It is possible, I guess it depends on whether you want to spend the cash. Its pretty straightforward to do it yourself.

I have been looking at this 512GB Internal SSD drive

dv6 can not handle dual hard drives like the dv7. If you are willing to take out the optical drive I believe several peeps have installed a secondary hard drive there.

I think he is talking about replacing the original hard disk. There is only 4 screws holding it in. Is there any way you can copy whats on your hard disk to the SSD ? I'm not sure if doing a straight swap with a new empty SSD would allow the DV6 to start up ?

I would recommend backing up the critical data needed and doing a fresh HP recovery or OS install on the new SSD.

If you must bring all of the data over, you can get an imaging program like Acronis for like $25 and take an image of the original hard drive to put it on the SSD after you install it.
