Is you Cyberlink software and blu-ray OEM, and if so have you updated it? If not, what version are you running?

Welcome to my world. Same issues here with blu-ray movies. Tried Roxio Cineplayer, HP Mediasmart DVD, WinDVD 10 and the OEM version of PowerDVD. The Roxio app is the only one that gives me an error saying that the graphics adapter "does not support the required overlay" to play blu-ray titles. The HP app does nothing, WinDVD says to upgrade the graphics driver and PowerDVD will display the movie title across the titlebar of the window but do nothing else.

Plays standard DVD's just fine though.

Could this have something to do with running on the intel grafix as opposed to the radeon?

I'm using Cyberlink PowerDVD 11 on DV6-6027Tx without any problems, plays all DVD's, BluRay just fine. What version of PowerDVD are u using? I never used the OEM version, so cant confirm if that works or not.

HP OEM version of PowerDVD is 10. I guess CyberLink has already released a patch for it. Strange is that I really have not seen CyberLink release too many patches for OEM software. Tried download/installing that and still no luck.

At this point, Trying PowerDVD 11 isn't going to hurt anything.

I'm going to ask the obvious question.

Are you sure you have a Blu-ray drive and not simply a DVD drive?

So HP ships PowerDVD10 software for playing Blu Rays but it doesn't play Blu Rays. If the laptop wasn't such a great deal I wouldn't touch HP with a 10 foot pole.

Well, there is some sort of free patch that powerdvd 10 says to install, but mine wouldn't install. So the stock software might play blu rays, I just don't know because I couldnt get the patch to work/

Dude, I wouldnt get yourself all worked up about this. You are going to like the system, its real fast, lightweight and mighty perty, and keeps very cool and quiet.

I didn't try BDs until after restoring to MSI, and doing all of the Windows and software updates, but my OEM copy of PowerDVD 10 has played all of my BDs on my DV7TQE-6100 flawlessly. I can even surf in the background when I have it outputting through my projector, as the PowerDVD takes over the secondary display. It's quite nice actually.

Alright - I broke down and did a complete wipe of my SSD. Went with using a retail version of Windows 7 rather than the HP OEM. Installed HP's May, 2011 (version 8.8, I believe) of the Catalyst and driver software. Not only did I find my system to be more stable when performing the manual switching, but it also cleared up my issue with not being able to play blu-ray movies. I used HP's version of PowerDVD 10.

So in a nutshell, it seems that most of the problems I encountered were a result of HP's stock software installs. The hardware is fine. But also this is crap since it is the second OEM software problem, I have encountered. The stock version of HP SimplePass 2011 was missing a component so the KeepSafe add-on would not work right and now this. Albeit, I would rather have to deal with these issues than send my notebook somewhere to be repaired.

Now if only there exsisted a download to re-install the HP Recovery Manager. Not everything from the SwSetup folder can be installed via a "setup.exe" file. There are a few items there that can only be installed through the Recovery application. Or at least, I do not know how to do so otherwise.
