It's still broke.

I FINALLY got Dolphin working! It's a long story, but short version: I mostly purchased this laptop for Dolphin to take my legitimate Wii game collection with me to north Africa for personal use (where Wii games aren't even sold by Nintendo). I spent the first 4 days with this system fighting switchable graphics to get Dolphin running beyond Intel graphics on both Linux (Mint 11) and Windows 7.
First off, run Open Hardware Monitor http://openhardwaremonitor.org/ to look at your the speed of your Radeon. Mine was working in dolphin but only clocking at 100Mhz. ?
I'm going by memory here... my system is doing backups right now in Linux. Sorry if my menu references/terms aren't precise.
THE FIX: I turned on the power management [Power Play] checkbox in the ATI CCC settings. Previously, the defaults had it set to MAXIMUM unmanaged by the drivers, but then I changed it to managed Maximum/Maximum {AC Power: Maximum Performance, Battery Power: Maximum Performance}.
NOW Finally Dolphin gets 1.8x to 3x the FPS as it was getting (example: Wii Sports Bowling now is 65 FPS in places it was previous only 35). Open Hardware Monitor shows the Radeon at 750Mhz while wii games are running!
Other notes: I'm running NTSC games, which I ripped from my console myself, and to get > 60FPS you have to turn off the throttle in Dolphin. I also tell Dolphin to lock threads to cores to make sure the turbo goes stable at 2.6Ghz [Dolphin uses only 2 of the 4 cores]. Close all other other open applications. I was running at > 60 FPS just to stress test the system.... see how much headroom I had. Running the latest builds of Dolphin... -
I actually think that the power play options may be irrelevant for this setup as the radeon is *never* used unless a game is running - a game that is running directx that is. And then who would want their performance to be sacrificed?? -
Sometimes i have getting slower performance while playing Alice in Madness. so i checked the frequencies and i think i have problem?
core speed: 400 Mhz
memory: 800 Mhz -
When i run Dolphin my GPU clock speed ranges from 100mhz to 400mhz, but when i play a game it ranges stays at a solid 725 MHZ. I pretty sure thats the reason for my low framrate. How can i fix the GPu from underclocking?
Also i have another question. My cpu clock speeds when playing games and using dolphin stays at 2.2ghz. How i can force turbo boost so i can use the full potenial of my proccessor of 3.3ghz -
I put a post on my blog about this all thing (linked to this thread, among others), feel free to comment.
Hoping they'll fix the issue soon so that I can reorder before I buy anything else (still thinking about that ASUS G73SW...) -

Do i need to restart when i change the power plan? -
-
We were talking about Dolphin, which is DX9 and DX11 capable... -
-
I tried both directx 9 and 11, and 11 seems to work better because it clocks the graphics card between 400 to 725 instead 100 to 400. -
I suggest you set everything back to stock in Dolphin on resolutions. I don't use AA or other enhancements, but I did set DX11 - I'm also using a real Wiimote. I was running both default and 1080p for full screen..
I have a Lenovo x201 i5 520M that is 2.4Ghz with intel-only graphics for comparison... and i was really getting frustrated how this new sandy-bridge system with radeon wasn't doing better in Dolphin.
Make sure your CPU shows 2.6Ghz turbo, lock the threads in Dolphin. Now with the new power setting, I NEVER see my radeon go below 725Mhz in Dolphin. It (Monitoring) should look just like this during Wii games (I'm using Wii Sports Bowling for my baseline testing): http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...v6t-7-switchable-graphics-86.html#post7640837 (obvious the screen shot is of Flight Simulator, but the Hardware Monitoring matches what I see when running Dolphin _correctly_ ) -
My only problem is the CPU speed. I have a Core i7 2720qm. Which clocks at 2.2 ghz and turbo to 3.3 ghz. But my CPU speeds max at 2.2ghz. When i set windows power profile to High Performace the max on Hardware Monitor shows 2.4ghz but my clocks still remain at 2.2 ghz.
HOW do i get around to the 3.3ghz speeds???? -
I have found what is the problem. if your cpu not boost to 2.6 and upper you could check first power setting is high perfrmance. and then you should check your HP COOLSENSE settings must set to "performance optimized mode"
-
That fixed it, i had on quitest mode. ALL MY PROBLEMS ARE RESOLVED!! LONG LIVE HP DV6T QE 6100 -
Dolphin users: they are making big changes in recent builds. Using i7-2630QM and Radeon 6770M @ 750Mhz... Wii Sports Resort opening menu [cursor on Swordplay] gives me 38 FPS on Dolphin r7637... but Dolphin r7613 gives me over 67 FPS on the same screen!
I suggest we all compare 1) r7613 2) x64 3) DX11 for now
P.S. I tried telling Switched Graphics to put Dolphin in "power saving" [Intel] mode, but it makes no difference. I closed and re-opened Dolphin r7613 and it still keeps using the Radeon. What a mess HP / AMD. -

I have just received my Hp dv7 with AMD6770m. I also noticed some issues with the card and was pretty disturbed to read all of this, i really don't want to go through the hassle of sending the notebook back.
Initially I noticed that the display driver crashed about an hour after I unplugged the AC cable and had switched back to the ATI. So I updated the GFX drivers, to another version. Display driver crash reoccurred, then I disabled the automatic switching. Opengl was not working well at all in after effects. Then I updated bios, found NEWER drivers for gfx card. Which fixed my opengl. I did stress tests on the GFX card for opengl. Everything seems to be running normally, photoshop says it is using the 6770m and I am rendering previews with opengl in After effects. But I had another display driver crash last night. Is this just a software issue, I presume they will come out with a fix shortly? Does all this sound familiar? -
No what you're saying is not normal because none of us here can kick in the 6770 to drive OpenGL programs. Can you let us know what drivers you are using and where you got them? Also your is a dv7 6100 right? How did you disable graphic switching? -
I am a bit new to this, but I just received my HP DV6T quad this last Saturday. So far, I love the laptop, but after reading stuff on this, it has scared me.
I'm a gamer, but I have yet to actually game on my laptop. I bought this laptop specifically and the 2 gig 6770 to game, but my laptop is primarily school. I've been looking to get games, and I went on CanYouRunIt to make sure that my pc is able to run the games. Starcraft passed, but it showed that my Intel HD graphics were being used, not the Radeon 6770. So that brings me here...
I really know little of this issue, so I have a few questions that I hope someone can answer.
1st, How can I tell that this is affecting my computer without actually buying a game to test? The system requirement lab thing runs off of my firefox, so I just assume that it cannot detect the Radeon because my computer is in power saving mode... So is there another program that allows me to see if my switchable graphics can work?
2nd, I've seen people mostly complain about this issue over the 1080 screens. I got the 768 one, does that mean that mine will be unaffected?
3rd, If my laptop is unable to switch the graphics, and if HP cannot fix the problem, how long is a refund available? Is it from the day it arrives or the day that you purchase it?
4th, Ive seen people talking about HP coolsense being a fix. When I go into coolsense, it has everything aimed toward performance... Does this mean that coolsense cannot be used to fix my laptop, if there is an issue.
I really enjoy this laptop, and I really want to game on it too. But if it can't game, I'm just not sure if I want to keep it. I found this laptop to be BY FAR the best deal available, so I really hope that this issue gets fixed.
Sorry for the long post, and much thanks to anyone who can answer my questions. -
my god IT HAPPENED AGAIN????
i did not do anything just defragged the disk and restarted the computer and look what i get now
When i get it i had 11.6 drivers installed but dynamic didnt worked, i have rollback to 8.830.6.2000 and now both of schemes fully working!!!
i have restarted my computer too and its still working -
From the looks for it, you did. Your driver isn't signed, which is oddly missing.
Try restarting it again if it kept it. -
i have rolled back to driver version "8.830.6.2000" and restarted, its still working both of schemes
-
Why would you rollback
.... I bet most would want it with the latest.
Can you post your CCC revision? -
Can anyone help?
-
because its not worked with 11.6, but now its working
-
I am not sure I understand what you posted EzerchE. Is that on the 6100? Did you just click roll back driver and it gives manual?
-
-
Oh. Got my hopes up...
-
At least you did confirm my statement that the dynamic switching update is going to applied to both the 6100 and the 6000 series.
Can you post your CCC version? -
smh, what a mess HP. how do you get the rollback button to unshade?
-
Rollback is only available if you perform an in place driver update.
-
interesting but it doesnt show the software information now. how can i find the software and driver versions in another way?
-
Nvm, it is the original CCC for 11.6.
Your CCC is a compiled a day before than mine
But the only thing that concerned me that you installed some non WHQL 11.6 driver package, which may be the cause. -
i have make a quick benchmark with GTA4;
dynamic scheme was more stable, smooth but it gives 50 fps.
fixed scheme is skips some frames but it gives 55 fps as result.
and when i select fixed scheme it shows the software/hardware information:
i have not uninstalled the ccc before rolling back the drivers.
i have first installed the sp51585 (8.810.4.1000), then installed the
sp53025 (8.830.6.2000) and then installed 11.6_WHQL_W7_Vista_MobilityMod-@asder00 modded drivers. then i have rolled back the drivers to 8.830.6.2000
thats all.
(also application profiles is installed too [11.6 CAP1]) -
-
Well, a big red flag the Cat Version didn't update correctly, which make some sense. It says 11.6 when you are running 11.4
@sonyco
I think he meant that cause he posted a 11.6 non WHQL pic before.
Even though the driver version didn't match though.
8.862 vs 8.861 (his) -
I dont think so because mine 101.515 kb.
i think it is this file: [email protected] -
100 MB? ..
Well it is later than the original.. kinda make some sense except for the WHQL disappearing.
By the way CAP doesn't do anything on single card, it only applies to those who uses crossfire for models like the dv6z.
If it is working you should see an application profile tab with a list of games in it. -
Has anyone got Bioshock 2 to work? When I run it, it freezes up. Would it be a bioschock problem as my desktop also had problems with it.
-
-
When does your 21 day clock started? Delivery date I'm assuming?
-
-
Only us, the 61xx owners are **** . So absolutely no new developments yet.
In the meantime, some little (= harsh!) complaining to HP does not hurt -
