That is a much older laptop with a multiplexer so it runs at 16x. This makes practically no difference though -- the 6770M is not fast enough to saturate 8 lanes.
-
How do i go about installing the latest drivers for Intel and AMD graphics? Do i have to install the HP drivers first and then install the intel/amd over them or can i just install the latest versions individually? thx.
-
Would it be possible for a mod to combine these two switchable graphics threads now that we got a fix?
-
I keep seeing people saying they are using the .2 drivers. I'm not real sure what they're talking about. haha. My catalyst version is 11.5, should it be something different?
-
Does this fix the switchable graphics for the dv7t series that doesnt have the quad core? I just ordered mine with i5 dual-core, 6770 gpu. And if it does, will it come preinstalled?
-
Yes to your first question, no to your second. You update the drivers/bios yourself like any other new computer.
-
Every time I try to overclock the Radeon on a 6100 my PC freezes...
-
What numbers are you trying to use? Every laptop is different. Some can go alot higher than stock and some can't even overclock more than a few %
-
Awesome!! So we can now manually switch to the ati card and use opengl now? (Sorry, im a total newb in the computer department)
-
Yes. So it effectively operates like the 60xx series if you enable fixed in the BIOS. You can overclock too. Check out my thread.
-
Yes we can.
-
i just updated my bios, but how do i switch between gpus in fixed mode?
thanks -
Can someone here help, I got no response in the "owners lounge".
I did a "clean install" for my new dv7 because I installed an SSD drive. Everything loaded fine, all drivers, yet I do not have the 'Configure Switchable Graphics' option on my pop-up 'right click on the desktop' display menu. The drivers for both video cards loaded fine, but I did not get this option.
Has this happened to anyone else. Is there another install I have to do?

Go into bios, there will be a setting to change from Dynamic to fixed
-
I would do this: Connect the old hdd via a usb-to-sata connector, use acronis trueimage to clone the old hdd to the new ssd, keeping the recovery partition and mbr. Then I would initiate a recovery from bios start, choose minimal recovery and hopefully all would work ok.
-
Ya, mine cant go that high either it also will freeze. I was hoping I would get lucky and be able to oc the crap out of it but nope. Ive been very lucky with my phone and it can handle nearly 2GHz, but every computer will be different.
-
if you're already in fixed mode, then right click desktop and go to configure switchable graphics and click the gpu u want to use
-
Also it doesn't look like you have catalyst control center installed. That may give you the option after you install it.
-
Exactly. Instead of getting that screen that allows you to select programs, you get two buttons to swap cards. Much easier/more reliable/more functional.
What I don't understand is why they can't implement dynamic switching with manual in the BIOS. How about have software be an automated manual. For example some cars allow you to switch the automatic transmission manually. We should just be able to set software we want to automatically switch cards, but we can override it whenever. I can't imagine it would be hard for them to implement into CCC -
must be that the ati drivers have one mode or the other and need that signal from the bios to know which mode to live in, i.e. either fixed or dynamic This is just speculation of course, but what if there are two sets of ati drivers, i.e. one for fixed and one for dynamic and that they cannot both be active at the same time.
it might be amusing to study device manager when booted up in each mode to see if any explanations emerge. -
Would your solution automatically close the programs conflicting? It's hard to do dynamic manual switching since graphic intensive programs need to closed.
-
is any body else getting 43 FPS on cinebench for OPenGL?
-
does the bios update can also fix dv6-61XX ??
-
Yes. dv6t and dv7t 61xx
-
That is what this whole thread is about...
-
How do i get into the bios?
-
Did you bother to read the pinned bios thread?
-
press f10 as the the computer boots.
-
No i didnt see it but the time it took you to try and make me look stupid you couldve just helped me.
Thanks chinedooo for the help -
If you want to make it easy to access the manual switching page just assign it to that little web browser shortcut next to the power button.
Open regedit and go to.Code:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey\7
Rename "Association" to "ShellExecute" and change the value to
pretty cool huh?Code:"C:\Program Files (x86)\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static\CLI.exe" Start Dashboard SingleAspectPage LeafName=Leaf_PowerXpress
-
It's not really to make you look stupid, but at the same time people shouldn't be spoon feeding you if the information is right there and you don't try looking for it yourself...
my $0.02 -
"JRSOR" helped? It was already too late to not look stupid or lazy.
-
I would also suggest this thread to make switching hotkeys. I have shift+control+alt and +A for AMD and +I for Intel.
-
For clarification, the original post has been edited and it says not to install 11.7b without first installing HP supplied drivers first. Does this mean I install the AMD driver from the HP website and then apply the 11.7B hotfix on top of it?
-
Yep.
10char -
Thanks! +rep

Posts from the switchable graphics FAQ have been merged into this thread.
There were too many threads on this topic, and this could cause confusion as to where posting should happen.
-
can i use keyboard to swtich between integrated and dedicated graphic card?
-
Go to CCC ---> Preferences (top right) ---> Hotkeys ---> Select the ATI card from the drop down ---> Go down to the bottom and you should find two commands to swap to power saving and performance gpu ---> edit each of these with the hotkey you want.
@ghost305 - I am getting 48.5fps for OpenGL in Cinebench. -
@ghost305
I am getting 43 fps for OpenGL in Cinebench 11.5 64bit when CPU turboboost is off.
48 fps when it is on. -
Download the newest graphic drivers ending in .2000 from HP. CCC isn't correctly installed, as the options you are seeing are for the Intel HD integrated graphics.
-
THanks. I'll go look for them now.
-
How are you guys getting that many fps? I cannot get over 30, what drivers?
-
This should not matter very much. I get 48.81 with whatever HP shipped the laptop with (I don't update drivers unless a game isn't working well). The CPU is the 2720QM with Turbo enabled. Are you sure your 6770M is active and you're using the 64-bit Cinebench?
-
I got 50.48 in CB with turbo boost on. (Yes, 64 bit.) I'm using .2000 drivers.
-
So I did the new BIOS and switched to fixed mode but now skype won't work with the built-in webcam......my my.....any thoguhts?
-
Well the person on skype can see me but I can't see her
-
So... I installed the new F.1A BIOS on my dv6t-6000 hoping to go from fixed -> dynamic, but I don't have any BIOS option to swap between the two. Looks like I'm stuck with fixed. Does anyone know of a way to get a Dv6t-6000 series to enable dynamic switching?
I know all the cool kids want fixed these days, but I'm a hipster, what can I say? -
The 6000 doesn't support dynamic switching.
