I have a dv6t-7000 laptop, which I ordered with the 32GB mSSD cache drive. Without taking the laptop apart (the slot for the drive is not under the back cover, but inside the computer), how can I tell if the laptop has it?

When I open up the Intel Rapid Storage Technology software, the only drive listed is a 750GB HDD. From what I understand I should also see the 32GB SSD drive, and an "Acceleration" tab; which is where I can configure it to be used as a cache drive. (The SSD is also not visible in the device manager.)

Am I correct in thinking that HP forgot to put the 32GB SSD into my laptop?

HP forgot to put quite a few mssd's in. You can call them and they will send you a replacement.

You should see exactly what I see when you open IRST. I got the 1 TB 5400 RPM drive and 32 GB cache. Otherwise call HP and get some money back or return.

Thanks juggar & ForeverZen. My Intel RST is missing the 32GB drive and the "Accelerate" tab. I called HP earlier and got the $50 refunded.

    Edit:
FYI, I placed my order on April 29, which is when the laptop just went on sale. From my reading it looks like its mostly the early orders who had the SSD missing.

It actually makes the 1 TB 5400 RPM drive very snappy and really makes a huge difference over the old 750 gig 750 RPM drive I had in my old DV6. my desktop loads almost as fast as one of the X-25 Intel SSDs. If you keep the recovery partition then you will be fine if you need a full restore because of viruses or w/e. There really is no need to format the drive unless your dead set on installing linux or win 7 ultimate but the 64 bit home premium is fine for most people anyway.

    TLDR,
if you dont approve then return it.

You may end up having problems switching to a newer OS eventually. I tried to install windows 7 ultimate on my new dv6t with the mSSD card and it couldn't find a drive to install on. It's covered in another thread in this forum. Good luck installing windows 8 if you want it. It seems to require removing the mssd card etc, not fun. It's ridiculous to be stuck with one OS for the life of the laptop or force you to open it up and remove components just to update.

How do you remove the casing / keyboard to get access to the MSATA on the DV6T-7000?

after you pull out all screwns, the keyboard needs to be removed (i had make a little damage on the keyboard to unlock the tabs, becouse have 3 screwns under ther keybord...
you`ll need to take an old card to open the cabinet without any damage. I`d started on the backside, near to LID fixation.
the black part around the keyborad need to access the msata port!
the exact location of msata is on the left side of touchpad. I`ll post a photo here!

so, the mssd is recognized as secondary HD, and the system don`t accept to boot up from that!

(sorry by my english, is very poor, i`m Brazilian)

My DV6 arrived last night, equipped with the 750GB hdd / 32GB mSSD combo. First thing I did was pull the hdd and swap in a 128GB Crucial M4 I had laying around. Considering buying this laptop with an SSD removed the option to include the "accelerated cache" mSSD, does this make the mSSD irrelevant or unnecessary? Nope.

Because my M4 SSD's perf envelope likely far exceeds the mSSD's capabilities, and because I still prefer to run SSDs straight up (non-RAID), I deleted the RAID0 settings at first boot. As such, the clean Win7 install I performed saw both the SSD and mSSD as install options. Once in Windows, I configured swap, temp, and hibernation to point to the mSSD and, since there will still be some space left over, will probably redirect downloads there too.

So, bottom line, the mSSD is useful whether or not you decide to use it as supplied. Its probably not beneficial in a RAID0 config with another SSD, but can still be used for other duties that will enhance the system's functionality.
