Has any testing been done the the dv6tqe + 9 cell in terms of battery life? I can't find any tests. I can't find many 6 cell tests either, if anyone could post them, or links to them, I would really appreciate it! I tried to use the "search thread" tool in the owner's lounge threads but it doesn't work for some reason; it always returns no results no matter what word(s) I type in.

I haven't fully tested it myself, but at full brightness just browsing the internet using the Intel HD Graphics, Windows estimates ~8 hours.

With Krakatau's results that makes me rethink ordering my dv6tqe with 9 cell instead of a 6 cell or high capacity 6 cell. I was expecting 2ish hours with a 6 cell with regular use with youtube and regular browsing.

Question for those who know/have experienced (please mention dv6t or dv7t)..

How much battery usage is left over after watching a movie with a 6 cell or 6 cell high capacity?

Whats the battery life with normal browsing/youtube?

(I am coming from a core-i5 Hp Envy15 which had pretty dismal battery life 2hrs?)

On my new dv7tqe, I have started to get 3.5 hours as well on my 6-cell with half brightness, wireless on, and very little anything else, so me and Krakatau is likely close together. I am so glad I got the 6-cell and 9-cell battery combo though. I have yet to even put the 9-cell battery in to try it, although I know I really should just to check it out. I may do that tonight when I get home.

Hey guys! After doing extensive research I've pretty much decided to get this laptop. But on HP's website you can customize the battery between a 6-cell, high capacity 6-cell and a 9-cell. Which would you recommend and why?

I'd say the 9-cell. More capacity, and it also boosts the laptop up a bit to allow better airflow underneath.

I've been using the 9-cell since 7est tonight, and it still says I have almost four hours of juice left. This is with medium brightness, and basic internet, including YouTube video viewing. So for the first time using the battery, that is around 7.5 hours on this first charge.

Determining battery life is very tough because it depends upon how you use your computer. The best case results would depend upon the following usage:

    1. Minor usage: Word processing, basic web-surfing (without flash*), etc.

    2. General Usage: In addition to the above, online music, videos, including flash* adverts on majority of the websites :|

    3. Heavy usage: In addition to 2, Video/Audio Editing, gaming, using the laptop speakers, etc.

    6-Cell Battery

    1. Around 5 hours
    2. Around 3-4 hours
    3. 1-2 hours MAX (2 would be pushing it I think!)

For the 6 Cell High Capacity, add 30 min to an hour extra.

    9-Cell Battery

    1. Around 8 hours
    2. Around 6 hours
    3. Around 4 hours

Note that the times above are with the generic intel graphics activated. If you use a discrete card enabled, cut all times in half to be realistic.

Of course the times listed above are not entirely accurate, and are only from my observations from my usage.

*Of all the web services, flash uses up around 70-80 percent of the battery. That's because every flash program is a loop, meaning that it keeps on repeating endlessly, taxing your processor. Even if you go to a text based website, if there are a couple of flash adverts running, it is sure to consume your battery faster. I would advise installing a good flash blocker to block out the annoyances.

Another point, although pretty minor as compared to the rest. A 7200RPM will consume more battery than the 5400RPM, but it is the price you pay for speed (although I don't think there is much of a speed boost, having used both extensively). If you think you will be travelling frequently or that you will need to use your battery for long durations, consider sticking to the 5400RPM.
