    Hi,

I got my laptop but I don't know if this is normal.
    I have the 1920 x 1080 screen anti-glare screen.

It looks beautiful, but any motion or change in the screen makes a very short high-pitched sound. Almost as if I had a very fine metallic comb and rubbed my nail gently across the tip of it (but in very fast, short bursts and barely audible).

I can hear it go on and off as the cusor blinks in this textbox, and whenever there is a big change in the screen (like logging off and having the screen blink a few times in the process) the high pitch sound becomes noticeably louder (kinda like turning off an old TV, but keep only the high pitch range of that sound) but only for that time.

Is this a problem or will it fix itself in time? It's kinda annoying considering my old laptop didn't do this and my room is dead silent.

    Thanks

Another way to describe the sound when there is a big change in the screen: It sounds as if a cd is being seeked on. A high-pitch, but "soft" squeal.

Well it still does it on my external so I think it's the cpu?

I have finally received the dv6t! Very solid machine, except for one thing...

The machine makes an electric whining/high-pitched buzzing sound whenever there is movement on the screen. For instance, when I move my mouse around the screen I can hear the buzzing until I stop. If I place the cursor in a textbox when the fan and room is silent, I can hear my machine go "bzz bzz bzz bzz" as the cursor blinks. When I scroll up or down the page it goes "bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" until I stop. If a Flash ad starts moving, I hear the buzz.

At first I thought this was a problem with the screen, but it wasn't – Even when I display the screen only on my external monitor, my laptop does the same high-pitch buzz/whine sound whenever there is movement on the external screen. I reseated the RAM as it sounded like it came from that area. I'm thinking it's the mobo or cpu? Or is the i7 noticeably louder than the c2d?

If you can imagine a cd player and the reading and seeking sounds it made, that's the kind of sound my notebook makes when logging out/shutting down my notebook. The brittle, high-pitch buzz sound turns into a high-pitch squeal during these transitions. Very noticeable and annoying in quiet environments. My XPS m1530 isn't as loud, and certainly doesn't make any audible noise for every change in pixel on the screen.

Does it sound like there is something wrong with my laptop, or is this just the way the notebook sounds?

    Thanks

Note: I made a similar thread but I couldn't change the title and had more info so I made this.

Def. sounds like there is something wrong. I remember I saw some other posts regarding this issue somewhere on here, it was referred to as Hard drive whining or something similar. Id say your best (but not most fun) bet is to return it.

Hey everyone, thanks for your replies.

I made my own video to show what I'm hearing: dv6t Quad Edition Buzz / Whine / Squeal - YouTube

That buzzing is really irritating me. You might think I'm being anal but I like working in quiet environments and for as much as I paid for this I expect it to be on the same noise level or even less than my previous laptop (XPS m1530).

@KLF: I don't think it's that exactly, mine is more of a buzzing sound with some squeals when I log out/log in or shutdown.
