I recieved my dv6tqe the other day (I have the 1366x768 screen) and so far its been great mostly. But I noticed a strange problem on one game (Universe at War: Earth Assualt) and on full screen YouTube videos. For some reason there is a black bar on the right side of the screen AND while this is happening if I try to click a button (or select a unit or location in the game) I must click slightly to the right of the button or unit. This makes things confusing and difficult, in addition to my stuff not filling the screen.
Here's a screenshot from a fullscreen YouTube video. Please note that my mouse cursor was slightly to the RIGHT of the deactivate fullscreen button (in the black bar area.) If I were to hover directly over that button, it would think I was over the resolution button. It's like I have to click where the button should be, not where it is. The buttons on the left side (pause/play and volume) seem to work fine.

Can this be fixed? Thanks

You can try to re-seat the cable for your monitor if you dont mind tearing apart your machine, but otherwise I'd say you may need to send it back or make a warranty claim
-
Ugh, those are two things I don't really want to do. If there is any way to fix it without doing that it would be good.
-
Actually, I have the same problem as well. On all of my games (Witcher 1/2, Oblivion, Magicka, etc.) this problem doesn't happen at all when I'm in fullscreen mode. It happens when I'm watching fullscreen flash videos on Chrome (Youtube, Youku, etc.).
I have a feeling that it may be due to the fact that Chrome is using the Intel 3000 graphics device. I haven't taken a deep look into the issue since it doesn't bother me much; I'll make sure to do so soon though.
EDIT: Yup, I was right. I changed the graphics preference to "Power Saving" and the problem was gone. Might as well do this since the dynamic switching is messed up (in case you didn't know, setting Chrome to "High performance" doesn't actually make it use the 6770m. Don't ask me why, it's just HP failing again). -
Well I just tried Internet Explorer and the problem doesn't seem to exist on YouTube videos there. However, I right clicked my desktop, clicked "configure switchable graphics" and changed FireFox (my default browser) from power saving to High Performance. That made no difference in the effect on Fire Fox.
The first reply from Beradon said it was a problem with my laptop's screen's connection and it would need to be repaired. Does anyone else think that or is this a different type of problem?
EDIT: The problem also exists in the Crysis demo, but only when the resolution is set in game to 1366x768. This is becoming quite perplexing and I actually might want to get this repaired if they can fix it, because who knows where this issue will show up next? -

This may sound dumb, but how do I do that? And will it get rid of any of my programs or something?^
Thanks -
Can someone please explain how to restore my system to HP default images?
Thanks -
I have a similar problem on my dv7t QE with the 1080p screen, but it only happens with Netflix streaming. The only changes I had made to my system were doing the Minimized System Image, using Windows Update (including the 6770m driver), and installing Silverlight (to run Netflix).
If you want to try the system restore, do the following:
1) Go to your Start Menu, and in the search box, look for HP Recovery Manager.
2) Once there, choose the System Recovery option, the last choice in the left-hand column.
3) Wait for your computer to reboot on the recovery partition. When the Recovery Manager starts again, choose Minimized System Image from the recovery options.
4) After you get it starting, wait for a while as your computer reboots and installs things multiple times. It should take about 15 minutes. -
I just did the system restore and then redownloaded Google Chrome to test the fullscreen YouTube videos. The problem still occured. Is there anything else I can try or should I send it to be repaired?
-
You're within 21 day return window, so don't bother with repair. Get a new one and this time - with 1080P screen.
-
Screw the 1080p screen. It's not worth the extra money. I was expecting this screen to be terrible with what everyone said about it, but it turned out to be much better than I expected. The 1080p screen might also reduce gaming performance and doesn't really seem worth it, especially if I may have to wait longer than for a repair. So I guess I should contact HP?
-
hahaha Screw the 1080p screen! Are you crazy?
It's worth the extra money so much!
Pros:
-Bigger resolution - more working space
-Better contrast, brightness, viewing angels, colors - they are simply stunning.
-Anti-glare - you can use your laptop outside and see everything not as in the glossy finished screens.
Cons: don't have any.
Yes 1366x768 display is bearable but when you see the 1080p you will be smashed.
It might reduce the gaming performance but you can lower the resolution to 1366x768. (I play F.3.A.R. 1080p FULL MAX settings and the game runs very smooth, so the video card is very powerful) -
Well, I'm sure it's great, but most of the pros aren't that important to me, and it's simply out of my budget.

I'm waiting for HP to send me the packaging so I can have it repaired. Before I send it off should I try installing any drivers or something just in case? If so, what drivers?
-
Well I just got it back from repair and...
THEY DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM.
When I chatted with them last night they said there was no problem with the notebook and it was a problem with third party applications.
So I want to know:
Do all other people with the same notebook as me also have this problem in FireFox and Chrome while using fullscreen flash videos like on YouTube (please quickly test if your not sure. Should only take 5 seconds)? Or is my case unique or uncommon?
THANKS -
Try right clicking on the video, selecting settings, and uncheck the hardware acceleration box. See if that works. -
Wow, that actually worked. What exactly does hardware acceleration mean/do?
And how can I fix the issue on games, like Crysis? -
Are you positive you're selecting 1366x768? It sounds like it's trying to output in an aspect ratio that your panel doesn't support.
And I don't know why it worked. I just know that it worked for me when my Youtube videos were displaying as a green screen on the 1080p display and figured it was worth a shot -
Oh. I'm positive I'm selecting 1366x768 in the Cryis options. The problem also occurs with 1360x768. It doesn't happen with 1024x768, though.
So do all other people have this problem with the dv6t or no? Would getting a replacement fix the problem?
