The HP has a better graphics card and blu-ray.

The Dell has a better screen/speakers.

If you plan on gaming or just need blu-ray for some reason, go for the HP. Otherwise, go for the Dell.

Can someone with a dv6T I7 sandy chime in on battery life? I tried to go through the mega thread but frankly those all inclusive owner's threads are abysmally inefficient to find information.

I will 100% confirm that the 6770 is much better than the 540m.

Graphics wise the HP is better.

One of the main reasons I am going to get the HP. I hope there will be another 33% or even 38% off coupon before the end of the summer.

Why do people demand that their must be a backlit keyboard these days?

Sure, it looks nice, but if you use a computer on a daily basis, you shouldn't need to look down at the keyboard when you type anyway.

LMAO, I'll look at my keyboard whenever I want to, whether you think I should or not. Why do people demand anything? Because they want whatever it is.

...and keyboards haven't been limited to just typing for awhile now.

Why do you think we need backlit keyboards. In the dark, you can't see the fugly. :D

Who uses their computer in the dark? Especially on a glossy screen like the Dell has, when you use your computer in the dark it's way too bright and you ahve to turn down the brigthness and even then it's still too bright

Well, the reason I got the backlit keyboard is my experience working in the dark.
Even at the brightest setting, I have squint a bit in order to see a few keys that I can't seem to touch remember like delete, home, end. Since those are never seem to be in standard positions in any laptop keyboards and those buttons are noticeable if I move the screen every time I need to use it.

Out of over 6 billion people on this rocky little dustball, I'd dare say quite a few of us aren't afraid to use computers in the dark, even laptops.

As far as "a glossy screen being too bright"... LMAO. Seriously? :D

    Still LMAO.

Are there coupons for the XPS? Cuz when I was making my purchase I customized the Dell to about 1500, and the HP to around 1600, but I had a coupon that took 600 off my HP, and the best coupon that I could find for the Dell is about 100 bucks. Made for an easy decision.

I love my laptop so far. Quick as hell, thin, and looks very sleek.

brownm - there are no coupons suitable for the xps 15, but the xps 17 can have 350 off $1600 and above, and then a $150 coupon in addition.

turn on the light and buy a laptop based on more important things than a shiny keyboard

a backlit keyboard is nice but it's pretty dumb to base a purchase decision on such an inconsequential feature

$500 in coupons for the XPS 17 running until July 30th if you configure it for $1600

    $350 coupon code 8GHR80Q1PLLCF7
    $150 coupon code: 7WR1C2?HTTQQ11

When I ordered mine they were running an instant discount of $20 off the $120 1TB upgrade so the total for coupons on mine was $520.
