Just as the title eludes to, my dv6tqe-6000 does not seem to want to play blu-ray movies. It will play DVDs just fine. My system even recognizes that there is a blu-ray disk in the drive. However, it will not play. So far I have tried Roxio's Cineplayer, WinDVD 10 and the latest version of HP's Mediasmart DVD. Cineplayer was installed through Roxio 2011 Creator Pro - so yes, the blu-ray plugin was included and installed. Cineplayer gives me an error saying that my graphics card does not support the "overlay" necessary to play them, while WinDVD and Mediasmart give me errors pertaining to the ATi drivers. I have tried reinstalling OEM, factory supplied drivers as well as tried following the many topics here that tell how to upgrade using those supplied directly from AMD as well as this "hotfix". No other drivers work or install for me save for those supplied by HP. Downloading from Windows Update will not install for me either.

Any suggestions or is the thought simply that I just have a bad blu-ray drive or graphics module?

Try downloading a trial version of Powerdvd 11 and see if that works. I have AnyDVD HD and Powerdvd 9 installed...

Ya I couldn't get the bluray version of fight club to work either. I tried like 8 different programs.

My DV7TQE-6100 came with PowerDVD10, and it has played every BD I've tried without issue.

Well - truth be told, I have never been a big fan of CyberLink products. Never too keen on a program that on startup, does it damnest to show me advertisments on other products or versions of itself. I am wondering if by my uninstalling the version of PowerDVD 10 that shipped with the notebook, I uninstalled a component I need to play those movie disks? I dunno - but it's suspiscious since I also uninstalled CyberLink's YouCam as well. HP has a generic Webcam app for it's usb-equipped notebooks that I like, so I tried that with no luck. Then I tried HP Mediasmart Webcam app, which did work... but only because it is a CyberLink product.

I will try first installing PowerDVD 10 (the HP version that shipped with my dv6) an see if that works then post my results later. Hopefully, my theory is this simple.
