So I purchased a dv6tse this summer, and all has been well so far except for the sound. Ever since i did well-known sound modification mod to obtain Envy 14 "beats" quality sound, I've had issues with the sound SOMETIMES not working after pausing and then resuming songs in iTunes or movies in WMP.

I initially thought it was a hardware problem, but a guaranteed way to make the sound work again is to close the program and reopen iTunes and play a song (even if the problem is in WMP, I have to close WMP, open itunes, start a song, close iTunes, then reopen WMP.) For this reason I think it might be a software problem with iTunes. When I go to the audio control panel I see the sound bars fluctuating, but no sound can be heard.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue?

Me too. Started when I streamed music from my Cowon S9's bluetooth. Also happens when I load up a song from within MediaMonkey or on occasion anything flash based on web browsers.

My temporary fix is either restarting the program or disabling/enabling the speakers.

Did you do that speaker "fix" recommended in some threads on this forum?

I followed that one as well. I'm not sure if one of the modified settings it recommended is causing the problem. I would try reverting my settings and see if that fixes the problem, but I'm willing to deal with the minor inconvenience if it means I'll have better sound.

this problem seems to be fixed in the latest driver for IDT High Definition Sound. The driver can be found on HP support's driver website.

Finally got around to installing the new drivers and I've not had any of the problems either.
