my question is, should i return the dv6tse and buy the dv6t quad instead? is it really worth the extra money? i will be using the laptop to game, browse, watch movies, edit photos and videos.

what is the advantage that the new sandy bridge processor have?

also, if i do keep the dv6tse, they lowered the price, do you guys think i would be able to get them to price match it and refund the difference back to me?

    thanks in advanced!

The graphics card is slightly better and probably will run cooler. (6570 > 5650)
In regards to the cpu it (i7-2630) has a higher base clock of 2ghz whereas your cpu has a high % turbo boost.
The i7-2630QM has a higher maximum clock rate of 2.9ghz though which is only 1ghz higher than yours.

I would say If you can snag a deal on the new one then it could be worth it. But if you are not really fussed and don't want to spend the extra couple hundred bucks, it's better off in your pocket or spent on an SSD.

Sandy bridge is more power proficient, and is better performance wise (clock to clock),and its integrated graphics are the biggest thing intel is trying to sell, they're supposedly equivalent to low end video cards. About the video card, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that new one is just a restamped 5700 series. And it looks like you'd be paying more for less ram and a slower hard drive. In all honesty I think you'd be perfectly fine with the SE, but if your itching for the best technology out there ATM then by all means get the quad. If I were you I'd at least play around with the SE for a week to see how you like it, put some strain on the 1st gen processor, etc. You've got 21 days to send it back. And I'm sure if you called and threatened to return they'd rebate you $100.00 or whatever the difference was.

yeah i think im going to try to call them and get the money back for the difference.

im probably going to just keep the SE, i dont want to go through the hassle of returning plus paying extra money, i see you have the dv6, i know people say the screen resolution is bad but once you get used to it, its bearable right? does the screen always feel cramped having to scroll and everything? i cant wait for my laptop.

No not really, I've never really had a high resolution computer so this just went with the flow I guess, I never really have a problem to be honest, although my next computer computer will definitely have a higher resolution screen - 1600 x 900 or FHD.

well i called hp earlier and they shot me down on the refund price, they said that my computer and its specs actually cost more than what they offer now with all the free upgrades that they changed, pretty dumb... doesnt bother me much though i think i got a real good price considering what i got

    This is funny....
I'm in the EXACT SAME SITUATION. My dv6tse (in sig) will arrive next week....but I might send it back for a SB dv7.
However....I love the sub $1000 price on my 6.

Is there going to be a new dv6 with SB core i5?

Probably, but that won't be until next month. Honestly, however, unless you want the 6570 GPU, standard voltage dual core SB isn't really worth waiting for imo.

I guess there's no chance of them adding USB 3.0, huh?

The reason why I don't want the quad edition is that I don't need a Core i7. I just see it as wasting battery life and making the computer hotter.

As others have noted, it's probably a good idea to stick with the notebook you have. Going through the hassle of a return PLUS the associated downtime . . . and for what? Sandy Bridge is faster and more power efficient, but unless you are pushing the CPU that hard . . . you're not going to notice a difference. Even the first-gen Core i3 dual-cores have way more power than most people need.

It actually runs really cool, and it might even give more battery life than current i5s. That's negated, however, because HP didn't implement switchable graphics for some dumb reason.

It is amazing how touch of a decision this is...
I'm still going back and forth between the new 6 and 7....
I'm tempted to order both and send one back. But I've already ordered the non SB version which will be going back on Tuesday. I really don't want to have over $3000 charged to my credit card...even if $2000 will eventually come back off.
Touchscreen and backlit keyboard vs bigger/better display, longer warrenty and 2nd HDD slot.

As far as the new dvt6se vs a quad....I would go quad. I'm not keeping my curent i5. After I priced everything out....it was basically $150 more to go from an i5-460m/5650, to an i7-2630qm/6570. (both using a $500 off coupon with the same set-up)
