here's a screen shot of temps while just surfing the web, with eset security suite, yahoo, nothing open except firefox and IE. temps have gone as high as 68. I know AMD's run hotter, so I expect some heat, but not while doing nothing.

I posted in a thread the other day about the power charging brick being pretty hot. hotter than the last 2 laptops i've had.

Tonight i noticed as soon as i ran it on battery, the temps dropped drastically. Temps now are 38-44 surfing the web.

Is that unusual for plugged in (high performance =same as battery setting) to spike in the 60's?

I've only had the computer a couple weeks and haven't stressed it, other than PS Cs4. That program flies on here. very nice :D I'd like to play some games (sim city) and i don't want to deal with high temps like my last POS Acer.

    appreciate any input!

Strange, my dv4z with Turion Ultra ZM82 is idling much cooler. Granted it's propped up by the 12 cell battery (aids cooling), but still.

I do have to wonder about the hot power brick you have though. I've got a 65W power brick that's merely warm (after the battery is charged). Your 90W brick shouldn't be hot while the notebook's idle.

I have to wonder whether the 90W brick is feeding your notebook too much power. I've seen similar reports from dv5z users with the 90W brick too. Your battery temps are what I see while plugged in. Properly diagnosing this is over my head though.

thx brian. it has to be the brick. we have a digital infrared temp gun. i just plugged it in, so i'll check it in a few and see what the actual temp on the brick is.

it's the only thing i can think of to cause it, seeing the sudden drop of temp on battery power.

been plugged in for an hour.

the brick is 125 degs. doesn't feel as hot as usual. idle is 55 degs

the cord coming out from the brick is 72 degs. Same temp going into the computer.

from the wall into the brick is 92 degs.

i'll see how hot it goes. only 50% charged so far.
