i've got a toslink to mini hooked up to an amp. i set my playback to spdif and begin playing an mp3, the sound bar is responding moving up and down but i'm still getting no sound and i know it's not the amp. is there a step i'm missing here?

apparently you need some hp dock in order to utilize it. i've already moved on and won't bother googling up specs but i'm quite sure it says nothing about needing a dock for spdif compatibility. definitely falsely advertised.

i have the hp doc but even then, it doesnt work! i have a spdif cable connected to my docker (i think it was like $99 when i bought my unit a year ago) and this cable runs to my logitech z-5500 surround sound speakers - but i have the same problem you have - that the sound appears to be outputted but the speakers do not pick it up.

i dont think you can do this w/o the docker although i do not know for sure. yeah, it's definitely false advertising though.
