    I was looking into buying my friends dv7 but i wanted to know if the gpu is upgradeable.

    No, you cannot upgrade the GPU. It's pretty rare in laptops and even rarer with HP (which locks the BIOS even for simple things like wireless cards).

    thats dumb....all asus laptops i have used can have upgraded graphics cards. Why can't you? is it just a bios/vbios thing? or is it that the card is soldered in?

    Those ASUS units were probably G series, yes? Most notebook cards are soldered and BIOS locked. Some gaming and enthusiast machines use MXM modular design to allow for replacement, but it's pretty rare. Most GPU replacements require a mainboard replacement, which makes it cost-prohibitive.

    i thought all laptops that are now built that do not include integrated graphics have MXM board....interesting
