i know nothing about the ins and outs of wireless connection. i picked up a linksys wrt54g when i got my first laptop around 4 years ago. it was plug and play for the most part as i remember it and it's given me no issues. i've only started reading into an upgrade as i've heard the N (looking into the WRT160N) can give much more impressive transfer rates. just wanted to know if the 1170us has both options built in, and if not, what i'd need to accomplish an N connection.

The laptop has a AGN card, so it's capable of both.

Get the "N" if you intend to buy a new one for yourself. Although the old one (G) should work just fine. That's what I'm using right now. It was state-of-the-art back when I bought it.
