Hello,
First post /hurray!
I just purchased a dv7-1273cl from aafes, here in Afghanistan. They were recently stocked at our local Base Exchange, around the 2nd of March.
t6400 Processor (2.0Ghz, 2mb L2 Cache, 45nm die,etc.)
4gb of DDR2 at 800mhz
9600 GT video Card w/ 512Mb of Memory
500gb 5400rpm harddrive
2x Blu-Ray player
WXGA (1440x900) Screen
Bluetooth, wireless, e-sata port, HDMI port, etc, etc.
Vista Home Premium x64 SP1
Here's my questions:
What CPU's can this guy be upgraded to? It runs fine as is, (sins of a solar Empire at max settings 4x AA and not a hickup, Don't know frame rate, don't really care, as my eyes are things that matters)
I tried doing research into what processors it will accept, but I'm unclear and I haven't seen any posts.
If my Front Side Bus is 800mhz, is that restricted by the CPU itself or by some chipset on the Motherboard?
Also I've read that there some problems with the Sound Card drivers (IDT HD audio) and also that the Blu-Ray player wouldn't work on some of the same model numbers that were sold at Costco. I have not had a chance to test the blu-ray player, but my Audio driver has yet to consume 50% of the CPU usage, at anytime (knock on wood).
As you might have guessed I don't have a steady Internet connection, so I'm pretty much just cleaning out alot of the HP junk except for the stuff that has been integrated to deeply and I can just hide away, and so far it's worked pretty good. I have Adobe CS4 Master Edition installed and It runs all those programs wonderfully(if not as fast as a 5000$ dollar falcon-NW)
I guess my main concerns are for the Processor upgrade, a possible Screen upgrade, and if anyone has encountered any problems with their 1273cl, that I might want to check on mine. Thanks in advance everyone.

Alright, I'll respond to myself I guess.
I installed the latest version of Nvidia's graphics drivers (179.48beta) and It seems to be running fine, with no problems. -
Well I'm not sure if its possible to upgrade your processor but on the HP's parts site it appears that board can take a Intel Core 2 Duo processor T6400 - 2.6GHz (Penryn-MV). To double check it you can go to HP's parts site and use your product number/serial to list specific parts for your laptop.
I found the processor on their parts page here . Again, please double check the model based on the sticker on the bottom of your laptop to be sure I selected the right model/parts page. You can also check other screens that are available on the same site.
One upgrade you might consider when you have time/money is to install a 7200rpm hard drive instead of the 5400rpm you now have. One thing to note about your laptop is it no longer has a dedicated sound card, all sound processes are done by the CPU now (I think you know this but you said sound card so I thought I'd mention it).
Good Luck,
