    Problem

The latest BIOS update F.13 causes Windows to display the Auto Play popup windows for each external drive partitions due to the new BIOS settings USB 3.0 Connection when using default Auto. If you change the BIOS configuration to Enabled for USB 3.0, this causes my system to hang on reboots.

    Recreate Problem

My external drives are USB 3.0 connected to the left side ports which are USB 3.0 capable using Windows 7 64-bit Quad core CPUs.

My PC came with SSD (Intel 520) for the OS drive. The type of OS drive being SSD Intel 520 is important due to the speed of the boot-up and handoff between the BIOS and Windows OS using the F.13 BIOS with USB 3.0 capable external hard drives.

    1) Setting the BIOS USB 3.0 Connection to its default of Auto causes Windows to display the Auto Play popup window for each external drive partition’s whenever I boot or reboot the machine. I can hear my external USB 3.0 drives power-up at the initial power on of the machine. As the BIOS completes and begins to boot into the OS, the external HDD drives momentarily shutdown during the handoff as Windows is loading. Then the drives power-on to reach their speed and Windows prompts me with Auto Play pop windows for each partition.

    2) Setting the BIOS USB 3.0 Connection to Enabled causes my system to hang on reboots with just a black screen after the machine powers down and then power-up. The machine would not make it to the BIOS startup where you would normally see in the lower left-hand corner the “Press the Esc key for startup menu”. The only solution to the reboot hang was to change the USB3.0 Configuration back to Auto which uses USB 2.0 and then the OS changes it to USB 3.0 which is causing the external drives to shutdown/start again during the handoff resulting in the Windows audible sounds and popup windows for each external drives partition.

Does anyone with an SSD running the Windows 7 64-bit OS confirm the same issues with USB 3.0 external drives using the USB 3 ports on the left side?

I have rolled back to the F.0A BIOS version to remove this problem. However, if I decide to upgrade to Windows 8, the newer BIOS was released for some of the new booting features of Windows 8 like secure boot.

    Thank you.
