Greetings, folks. I recently purchased a new dv7t-3000. I replaced the internal hard drive with an Intel X-25M 160GB SSD and re-installed Windows 7.

I'm writing because I'm hearing an annoying noise coming from the subwoofer. It sounds like induced RF noise. I hear the noise regardless of whether the speakers are muted or not. I've also disabled or muted all the audio recording devices, but no change.

It basically sounds like radio frequency noise, probably induced from some other component in the laptop whose leads run close to or over the speaker wire for the subwoofer.

Is anyone else experiencing this? It's loud enough that I can hear it while sitting in a quiet room with the laptop on my lap.

    Thanks.

Haven't called HP yet, I suspect there is little they can do.

I attempted to move the SSD drive to the other drive bay, hoping that moving it would eliminate it as a potential source of RF noise. However, due to the extraordinarily limited BIOS options in this laptop, I am not able to get the machine to boot from the other SATA interface. There appears to be no way to select an alternate boot drive.

I'm surprised at the locked-down nature of the BIOS on this laptop.

Thank you for your post. Yes I hear that too. It is much louder and more annoying when you plug it into a docking station (eg. the XB4 docking stn which I am using), except when you press mute the docking station goes quiet (but the much lower level noise from the PC remains regardless of mute). HP is trying to get me to return my dock for replacement but I asked them instead to just verify in their own lab with an XB4 - waiting for the response now.

I never found a solution, and I haven't bothered to contact HP, too busy. I'm just "living with it".
