it's odd... for some reason, i can use the touch pad to move the mouse around but when i tap it once or twice to select / excute something, it doesnt work... anyone have a clue as to what this could be?
it worked recently and i dont think i disabled anything that would affect this....... hmmmm......
any help would be much appreciated.

If you right click on the Synaptics icon in the tray, is "Tap to Click" checked?
-
Update the drivers? Weird.
-
Interestingly, I also had this happen with my new DV5T. I think one of the buttons was stuck to the system (I have no idea how). For mine I enabled and disabled the wireless button. After that it was fine.

Thanks for the advice guys. I will try this tonight when I get back in front of my machine. im going to check the synaptics icon and then update drivers... although this DID work when i got the machine... i installed a logitech vx nano mouse + software recently, maybe that has something to do with it... it's not related to the touchpad though so it's odd..
but i will report back with what i come up with. -
Because you recently installed the new mouse/software, it is possible that there is some conflict between the synaptics driver and the logitech driver. Hopefully, you can reinstall the synapics driver and fix the touchpad issue, without affecting the functioning of the mouse.
Good Luck! -

you guys rock.
after looking through the various mouse/touchpad controls, i figured out that for some reason, the vx nano software i installed DISABLED the tapping 'feature' on the trackpad...
why the tapping is a feature that you can turn on an off, i find, slightly odd... it's like having a mouse without buttons... what the he!!? i know you can use the buttons, but it's so much more convenient tapping on the touchpad.
anyway, if anyone else runs into this problem here is the fix--
1 - click on the synaptics tray icon by in the system tray
2 - select 'pointing device properties'
3 - a window with a bunch of tabs will appear. click on the devic settings tab.
4 - under the list of devices installed, double-click the synaptics touchpad v7.2
5 - another window will appear. at that window, select tapping and then check off the 'enable tapping' feature.
that's it. thanks again for your leads guys. i feel like an idiot, it was something so simple. LOL. -
Glad it turned out to be a simple fix!

It really works and helped me alot.
Lots of thanks.
