    Hi All,

I recently purchased a dv7t, and got it a few weeks ago. My friend heard me ranting and raving about it, so he purchased one too. He just received a few days ago, and somehow managed to spill water on the keyboard. He turned it off, removed the battery, and let it dry. However, the keyboard seems to have a few shorts throughout the circuit, which means it's probably shot...but I figured we'd just remove it and try flushing it out and letting it try with some pure alcohol before sending it in for service. (no...he doesn't have the accidental damage protection). My question is...HOW in the world do you remove the keyboard? There's a single screw under the main panel with a keyboard logo above it...but other than that I have nothing else to go by. And, of course, the service & maintenance manual isn't up on HPSupport yet (it is for the dv4t).

    Any ideas?

you should download the service manual for the dv7t. there are instructions on how to remove most components of the laptop

edit: nvm didn't read all the way. are the screw locations the same as the dv4t?

Where's the service manual? I need to tighten my hinges on my display but can't figure out how with this **** infinity display.

Edit: Ok cbar777t I would reccommend undoing the screws above the battery (inside the battery compartment) and the two screws to the left and right of the battery. Then take the speaker cover (the mesh part) and pull it up and out of the way. Then the keyboard can slide upwards (towards the screen) and out.

The so called "keyboard screw" at the bottom is the only screw preventing it from sliding towards the screen.

It's the same design as the dv9000.

Yeah. I just tried it myself. The middle area where the quickplay buttons are pops up, but the sides don't seem to want to budge...and I really don't want to pull too hard and break something. Has anyone ever tried this themselves?

I don't mean to keep bringing this back. But does anyone have any other ideas? should I be pulling harder on the top lip than I am?

I had the exact same problem: I spilled tea on my DV7t keyboard (quite a bit of it) It's drying now.

I managed to get the keyboard off, and the only way to do it leads me to believe that HP REALLY didn't intend for people to remove the keyboard on their own.

First: Get all the screws under the battery, and the one to the right of it, off.

Second: Open up your DVD/Blu-ray player, and remove two screws from within it (make sure they don't fall inside!).

The first of these is located towards screen, and pulling out the player just a little should expose it.
The second is located more toward the middle of the player slot, and requires full extension of the disk bay to access (you might remove the player, I didn't, and am not sure how).

This should be enough to pry off the speaker cover. Be careful, though. There is a ribbon (which I can find no safe way to disconnect) attaching both the speaker cover and the keyboard to the laptop chassis.

Finally, there is one screw attaching the keyboard to the chassis that can be found only after opening the panel on the laptop that grants access to the HDD and memory.

    (5 mins later)

(Closed the laptop panel, gotta go, may update with more specifics.)

Hope this helps. Don't break anything you don't absolutely have to!
