I just wanted to know how many use linux on their dv7t Quad's (and dv6t quad's)? The reason i made a thread is so that maybe we could share our experiences and report issues faced with using linux with such systems. :)

With that said, I have been using Mint 9 (Gnome) x64 on my dv7t for quite a while now. I have faced two major problems with using linux (ubuntu and mint 9).
    1. Power Manager doesn't function properly. When i switch from AC to battery, the power manager applet doesn't recognize that i'm running on battery. Also, my battery life is abysmal with linux! :(

    2. Another major issue is that senor's applet doesn't seem to work either. It can't read my CPU and HDD temp's. I only get GPU temperature. :(

Anyway, hoping to see more dv7t linux users. :)

    Cheers.
    Ned.

P.S.- Hope i posted in the rite section. ;)

Is there a benefit in running Linux over Windows? Or is it user preference?

User preference mostly. The out-of-the-box experience with ubuntu and such distro's is very newbie friendly.
But of-course, you can't run any (not sure abt any, but most of 'em) of the latest games in linux. Usually only older ones like Counter-Strike, WoW and such work as far as i know.
Security provided by linux is also a big plus.

You might do better asking in the linux specific section since it doesn't seem like many dv7t owners use it
