Anything that tries to load full screen or any games for that matter now refused to run on my dv7t.

I did a fresh install of the operating system AGAIN tried WOW and SWAT 4. NO go.

It loads the game and goes back to the desktop. This is without me ever even hooking up my external monitor to it.

I'm about ready to send it back and buy another mac.

Anyone have any solutions? I'm running vista x64. I tried installing the drivers at hp.com for vista x64 and it told me they were NOT x64 drivers.
I then installed the newest ones from nvidia.com. I also have the same problem with them.

I'm getting ready to return this notebook tomorrow if no solution is found.

Go to www.swat4online.com and post it there on those forums. It might be more specific to the game than the computer.

This happens on WoW, SWAT 4, diablo 2, HL1, Hl2, COD4, and World of Goo.

I stopped trying games after that as it's total BS. I contacted HP. followed what they wanted me to do. They tell me it's a driver issue. I contacted Nvidia and heard nothing (as expected).

Sounds like a driver issue for the video card. What changes did you make to the settings before the problem began?

I tried the restore dvd's without any issues. They still had the same problem. Then I borrowed my neighbors vista dvd and did a fresh install without HP's software.

Same problems. I'm currently running the 179.48 drivers from nvidia.

ETA. No changes were made other then plugging in and using the external monitor as the main monitor.

No changes. It doesn't work with the restore, trying their drivers doesn't fix the problem. I'm going to attempt another clean install since I can't RMA it until they are open.

Everything runs really nice and quick on here to. It's to bad it's not working with any 3d applications.

Where did you get the drivers from? Straight from nvidia's site? Maybe try uninstalling those and download hp update and get the ones from there or windows update.

Edit: Also, did your neighbor's DVD have SP1 on it?

I tried the drivers from hp's website, nvidias, and the one from drivers2go or whatever the mobile website.

I also tried them with a fresh install from HP, and a fresh install of my neighbors dvd. It did have sp1 already on it.

HP is not open yet, so I'm finishing an install with vista 32bit now. (though that doesn't use all my ram so it's not a solution). But it might tell me if it's a driver issue or not.

For all I know there is something physically wrong with the card.

man you are having so many problems with your dv7.... i wonder whats up...

i did NOT do a fresh reinstall of the OS on mine. i am able to play need for speed and unreal 3 without any issues at all. just make sure your OS is patched also according to windowsupdate.com

also keep in mind that you have 21 days to send back this unit.

i would use the restore dvd's, update everything according to windows update, then give it a shot.

fwiw. i have not seen or heard of anyone else having the problems that you're having and im on these forums daily. i've had my dv7 since august 08 and have not had any issues whatsoever with it.

IDT Audio sometimes hangs but thats just a service. it doesnt affect my machine in any way. aside from that, things are great with this unit.

I just got off the phone with them. I think this one has a defective video card.

I'm going to send this one back. I hope everyone else who got it during the switch over to new video cards gets good ones that do not have problems.

    Hi,
What Firewall are you using? Some games will not run as they try to connect to the internet to log on to their specific servers for updates or the horrible drm fiasco. If you're using the built in Windows firewall you will have to make an exception to allow the .exe to connect or if a third party you will have to allow the .exe to the firewall rules. Just a thought.
I still find the dv7 to be an excellent machine and I am playing End War at the mo which looks superb.
