    Hey guys,

I'm going to be doing a fresh install of win7 64 on my dv7t, and want to make sure I have the driver installation method correct to use the modded catalyst drivers.

    1. So I first need to install the HP provided Drivers for my 6770m.
    2. Then I would install the AMD Catalyst Mobility 11.8 drivers on top of that correct?

    Thanks!

    modded catalyst drivers? why?

the switchable Intel-AMD graphics capability is owned by HP, not by AMD or Intel, and in most cases that I have read about on these forums, folks are asking for trouble when going outside of the HP supplied drivers. Moreover, I haven't seen any reason not to stay with the drivers supplied by HP.

The most reliable plan, imho, is:

    1. build the system just as HP shipped.
    2. copy swsetup folder to something
    3. install win7 from retail bits
    4. restore swsetup folder
    5. pick and choose what you want in swsetup, installing the desired drivers there
    6. download the latest switchable graphics package from HP. this includes the intel 3000 IGP, the AMD 6770 driver, and catalyst control center. this is the only driver set that HP guarantees will switch properly.

what is the compelling reason to install something on top of the HP package?

you get noticeably better performance in games. 3dmark11 score goes up by about 60 points, and fps in starcraft 2 went up by about 10-15% simply by updating drivers. i'm sure there are other improvements as well, but i have not gone back and forth to test them. currently on the 11.8 driver and pretty happy with it.

theres also no noticeable issues that arise from using anything newer than the stock HP drivers.

plus I've read of screen tearing issues that were solved by updating
