After connecting hdmi to my LG monitor tv, I noticed that all four edges were cut off/missing, with the result that some icons & menus were not available.

The same problem does not happen when connecting to VGA port of the laptop, but thought to try hdmi in case digital connection was a bit sharper.

After some search, it seems that the consensus is that this is an issue that seems to draw complaints from Nvidia graphics card users across multiple manufacturers. A number of people seemed to blame Nvidia for not having a control for adjusting a condition known as "overscan", which is present in most monitors. Some even suggested that the reason that this is happening is the monitor manufacturer is not really selling what they are advertising.

The solution, it turns out, was to find a buried menu option on the monitor. Under "Aspect Ratio", there was a setting "Just Scan". Amazingly, when that option is chosen, the display is correct, with all 4 sides now matching the laptop.

The technical problem resolved, the jury is still out as to whether the digital port is noticably clearer than the vga port. One thing that I was previously noticing, depening on the font size, sometimes the text was a little harder to read using the VGA port as compared to the native laptop screen.
