At the very least, some of the drivers in this thread are also compatible with Windows XP. And if the driver listed isn't compatible, there is almost always an alternate version that supports Windows XP.

For a fact, the WiFi/wireless and graphics drivers listed are not compatible with XP - but there are XP versions for them. Please let me know if you're interested and I'll try to post the links for them here. :)

Oh cool, yes I am very interested in doing it, I need to have xp as my lighting software only runs on it. I used to use my old dv9500 but that just died again (for the 3rd time now) due to the faulty video card.

I did more reaserch and found this thread

General XP Downgrade Guide for HP Laptops - HP Support Forum

and on his 3rd post it list drivers for every dv model except 8, but could those be used as well?? It seems like the steps are the same, slipstreaming the sata drivers etc etc

does that thread look like a good guide to follow, and are those the drivers needed? Thakns justin!

Since the thread you linked to is for older models, some of these drivers will not be compatible with your dv8. The procedures for some things like slipstreaming the SATA drivers are the same however.

Here are some Windows XP drivers that you should use instead of the ones listed in the driver thread.

    NVIDIA GeForce Graphics Driver
    Version: 260.99
