AMD has been pretty secretive about their future product releases and much is not known abou the Turion X2, so until the release there probably wont be much in terms of HP laptops using the processor. I would expect HP to include the X2's, but we"l have to wait and see.

The rumor is that the Turion X2 launches on May 9th, but like miner said everyone's being very secretive about it. They do require new motherboards. The May 9th date could be bogus, it could be a paper launch... but desktop chips with the new socket design are going be released ahead of schedule (late this month instead of June 6th) so I'm hopeful.

Hmph, now the word is that the Turion X2 launch has been delayed until June:
    http://www.digitimes.com/mobos/a20060503PB200.html
The official excuse is that notebook demand has dropped off due to Windows Vista being delayed so OEMs have old inventory they want to clear before launching new designs. I think AMD is making a mistake by going along with this. They need to get the X2 out NOW.

Of course, all we have to go on is rumor, so all of the above could be wrong.

Ooh I am disappointed very much with this delay. I search the news and here again more of this bad news =(

The other day I check out some of Acer AMD lappy line. To my surprise, they really provide good high resolution screen even for the 15.4" size. I wonder about HP next move will be?

    =( sob, sob, sob

I am bummed too. I have been waiting for patiently since January to buy a 64-bit dual core machine. If AMD delays much longer, I might end up with a 64-bit duo core from Intel.

Any rumors as to when Intel will be out with their mobile 64-bit dual core chip? I really would hate to wait to the end of the summer for the fall school products to be launched.

The Turion x2 was scheduled for 5/9, so we should keep our eyes open. Nevertheless, the mobile Athlon x2 on AM2 is more likely to be used in DV8000class laptop. The mobile Athlon x2 on socket AM2 was originally scheduled for June 6 release. It is now rescheduled for May 23 (two weeks earlier) according to AMD's announcement at Computex at Taipei on April 18.

    Hi Bill,

I'm confused with your statement. So the new TurX2 that will be launched this 5/9 will it use the AMD2 socket or the 939 socket?

If what I assume from your statement is correct, that means this new coming proc that Hp will launch is not the mobile version then?...

Well, I just hope they do use the DDR2 Ram and label it with competitive price against the Intel with better QC for hp lappy.

    please enlight me!

again, sob sob sob...for the delaying rumours
