    Hello everyone,

I recently got my new laptop, and I noticed that it never shows the remaining battery time, only percentage. My previous zd7000 showed that. I searched for an answer online and found out that it might be because the processor can change frequencies and therefore prediction is not possible. Is that true? If so, it there anyway to go around it? Thanks!

Try Notebook Hardware Control, Battery Eater, or MobileMeter. This and the volume level OSD missing in some HP laptops are two of the most FAQs. Any of these program will survey your current average usage and report the remaining battery time. It does not really care if the processor change frequencies or not as this has been taken into account in the energy consumption pattern.

It is basically HP's fault. Non of their recent models seem to show the battery time remaining. You'll have to use a third party program(only a few can) to show the time remaining. It has nothing to do wiith the processor being able to change its speed. Toshiba, Dell, Acer all ship laptops with the time feature, but only on HP' wont you see the time remaining. They only show the percent of battery charge remaining.

The interesting thing is the problem cannot be solved by installing a full version of OS. I have a WinXP Pro installed on my previous notebook with both battery time and volume display, however, installing that OS on my DV4000 still showed neither. On the other hand, both functions can be restored by installing third party apps, so they are not really hardware problems. It seems HP just does not supply necessary proprietary drivers for these functions.

I still haven't found a program which can show me the time remaining.

Just like HP skimped on the CPU temp readings and recovery CD's.
Had I known all this before I bought mine, I would have stayed with Dell.

    Simply Put,
Its HP all to the bame. Ther's no such restratint either by the chipset, Windows OS or Hardware. They've justs stipudy not allowed that function.

I got my HP HV 8000 a year ago ( the top notch Config whatever was available).
Quality is pleasing and Bundle is royal, but its these little annoyances that don't justufy its heafty price tag of Almost 1 lac rupees (2500$).

Remaining Battery runtime is not shown.
    Current power consumption Not shown
No temp and fan speed readings
Fan speed not configurable ( Oh dam! it sounds like a Hair dryier frequently)
2 hard disks not configured in RAID (Ugh!)
No OSD for Volume, Touch keys whatever
Provided remote can't even control mouse pointer!

    Awgh!!

    And yeah,
3Rd party Apps don't help at all
They simply don't 'recognise' the stuff.
I've trued NHC, Spped FAN,Intel desktop Control, RIVAtuner, MBmonitor etc.. all in vain!
