    OK, a few questions:

Does upgrading the first memory slot (not the one that's accessible from the bottom) void the warranty?

If it's configured with one hard drive, does that mean there is a vacant spot in the laptop for the later addition of a hard drive?

Are there spots for two 8-cell batteries or is the Additional 8-cell battery just a spare?

Does anyone know if HP plans on providing a better video card than the 7400 like they have with previous notebooks?

    Thanks

Opening up the laptop will technically void your warranty. Yet if you have to return the laptop for repair and first remove the upgraded memory, there is no way for anyone to know you did it (assuming you didn't break anything :))
Hard drive - if you didn't aks for two, you will have problems adding a second drive because there will be no place for it.
Video card - hm I doubt they will upgrade it. After all they downgraded it from X700...Well, maybe x1600 at some time later this year but not in dv8000t I think

As vassil mentioned if you do it carefully, then they really should not know about the upgrading. Ofcource you'll have to put the original memory in that slot if and when you send it in for any warranty services.

In the case of the dv8000 series you should have a spare comprtment for the second hard drive, but HP uses an adaptor to connect the drive and they do not sell these by themselves, they usually bundle them with their hard drives which tend to be overpriced. So, if you ever want to use the second HDD get the second HDD from HP as it will be a big pain later on.

The additional 8 cell battery should be a spare. HP rarely upgrades the GPU in a series but cant really predict they arent going to either.

I don't know if I understand this corrently. So, there is a second bay in which the spare battery could fit that could also be used to house a second hard drive but not without a proprietary HP adapter?

    Thanks for the replies

I think he means that there is a second hard drive bay, but no mounting bracket.

Oops, that was a typo. I meant "second hard drive"

Let me make it clear there are no secondary battery bays. The dv8000t series has the ability to take 2 hard drives, not 2 batteries.
