    Hello,

Sometimes my dv8000t won't start up. This happens after the computer is turned off overnight. Here's the usual scenario:

The AC adapter is not plugged in and the battery is charged. I press the power button and I get nothing. Nothing is turned on, no LED lights lit. I also tried holding the power button. Still no go.

Next, I try plugging in the AC adapter. The battery is still in the laptop. As soon as the AC adapter is plugged into the jack, most LED lights turn on (with the exception of the Power LED indicator) and I hear some noise from the Hard Drive. Also, the LCD screen has a gray vertical band on the right side. All this happens before I press the power button - just by plugging in the AC adapter. Now, when I press the power button, the machine still does nothing.

At this point the only way for me to power it up is to remove and reinsert the battery.

I tried installing the BIOS flash from the HP site (which seems to be the same version) and turning off hibernation. No luck.

I'm going to send this to HP support and see what they have to say.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

I had the same experience yesterday!

I too had to remove and reinsert the battery.

Glad to know I'm not alone.

I sent HP an email regarding this and was responded with this:

    Code:
Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.

I understand from your mail that the notebook does not start up. I
appreciate all your efforts in resolving this issue. Let me assist you
    further.

The issue seems to be hardware related and needs onsite diagnosis of HP
Technician. I recommend you to get it repaired through our Mail in
    repair setup.

Your HP product needs to be repaired which requires setting up a
service. Please complete the information below so we can process your
request for the mail-in repair service.

I'm hoping someone here knows why this happens and if it could be fixed without sending it in.

Perhaps the battery contacts are dirty which would seem odd on such a new notebook. I think contacting HP and getting it fixed seems like the right course of action.
