Not sure whether this goes here or hardware forum but here goes:
My laptop is overheating playing Halo. This is the only game I have tried so far. I am not really a gamer, I know this isn't a gamer's machine, but it plays Halo fine other than the heat issues.
I run mobilemeter and it is giving me a idle temp of 0.0*c. I know this isn't right. While thumping my system with Halo, I have seen temps as high as 91*c. Right before it shuts off. This seems extremely high. I am suspiscious of this number since the idle temp doesn't look right. I tried AMD Dashboard demo, but it doesn't register the cpu temp at all. I couldn't find the Turion64 specs on AMD's site, but they have the Athlon etc. Not sure if the specs are much different.
In MobileMeter/Options/ACPI Temp it shows the Active cooling temp of 40.0*c, Passive 90.0*C and Critical is 94.0*C. Is it getting these values from the CPU or the temp sensor, or are they just defaults from MM? If those numbers are correct then the max temps I am seeing with MM must be correct.
Any help is much appreciated. I am thinking of undervolting and definelty upgrading my laptop pad with an active cooling one.
don't these temps seem high though? Anyone else with a similar experience?
sorry for the novel, just trying to answer as many ?'s as I can.
    TIA

MobileMeter gets its info from the BIOS via ACPI. Unfortunately, it looks like HP goofed that part of the BIOS. Hopefully they'll fix it but as of F.24a it's still broken. Right now I know of no way to accurately read the CPU temperature via software.

The Turion ML series is 35W maximum, far less than the 62W max of the Mobile Athlon 64 series. You are making sure not to block the fan intake on the bottom of the notebook, right? I can't see how the CPU could possibly get up to 91C (measured by what?) unless something is seriously broken.

Undervolting is good in and of itself so by all means set up RMclock or CrystalCPUID.

Thanks, I guess the temp is probably bogus if the bios does not support it. The air coming out of the back is warm but not 91*C warm. I have not flashed F.24. I make sure the bottom intake is open since I noticed the overheating.
The fans seems to run alot lately, but I may just be paying more attention to it now. Think I will try to pick up a cooler tomorrow and maybe send HP an email. That should be interesting.
It definetly does not get as hot as my old Dell, you could not keep that thing in your lap.
