Hi. I have a dv8327us model Pavilion notebook and I recently installed Vista on it. Since I had some problems with Vista as can't find the drivers and such I decided to go back to XP Professional. I have the Recovery DVD's(2 of them) that I created. I went through the installation process like 5-6 times but problem remains. The problem is after the installation of XP Pro, everything works except I can NOT see the ''HP Recovery'' and also the most important thing for me the ''DVD RAM''(although when I put a DVD the light is working on it and I can hear the DVD spinning) drive when you go into ''My Computer''. The first time the computer turns on with the fresh install you can see they are there but once I reboot the machine they dissapear and the ''Local C:'' drive changes it's name to ''OS C:'' ... So the only thing I see when I go into ''My Computer'' is My Documents and something else(I can't remember) and then under that ''OS C:'' drive...I am about to give up on XP and live with the problems of Vista until they are ironed out but I thought I can post something about it here and see if anybody knows what is going on and maybe give XP a one last shot... Thank you very much...

PS: There is no Error message when I go into the Device Manager.

    douglaz,

What do you see in disk management? (right click 'my computer' > 'manage' > 'disk management' ) Are all your disks present? Do they have drive letters assigned?

Check in event viewer while you're in there to see if there are any system messeges that might provide a clue.

And what is in device manager? Do the drives show up there? Have you tried deleting the DVD rom drive and doing a restart to let it reinstall the driver?
