Hello, long time lurker, 1st time poster. :)

I have searched the forums but was unable to locate information about my particular model HP. I have a dv9000 CTO (EZ379AV) model laptop with a Core 2 Duo T5500 CPU. I was curious what the highest clocked Core 2 Duo this puppy would take.

Will it require a BIOS update, etc? I have included a screen shot of my laptop's CPUID info if that helps. I love this laptop and have had it for going on 2 years now with no issues, just want a bit more muscle under the hood.

    Thanks! :)

The most powerful would be the Core 2 Duo T7600...

Thanks for the quick reply! I found the CPU here:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819111300

I notice it has 4MB cache vs. my current 2MB, so will this laptop support basically any Socket M Merom C2D? BIOS version is currently F.05, will I need to update it?

Sorry for all the questions, I don't want to make an expensive mistake. :)

That's a pretty expensive processor - is there a particular reason that you feel compelled to upgrade? It may just be that Windows has become bloated over the years, and if you were to reinstall it, a lot of those problems would go away. I generally reinstalled Windows every 18-24 months when I regularly used it, and it helped to keep my system running quickly. Note that this doesn't have to be because of any malware/viruses - just regular use of Windows tends to make it slow down over time.

    Core 2 Duo T7200 - 2.0 GHz, 4 Mb, 677 MHz,
    Core 2 Duo T7400 - 2.16 GHz, 4 Mb, 677 MHz
    Core 2 Duo T7600 - 2.33 GHz, 4 Mb, 677 MHz

the top 3 that the motherboard will support. newegg has the T7400 at $329.99

Yes the T7400 is the one to catch my eye. So this puppy will work w/o a BIOS upgrade? I seem to remember the 2.0GHz being the top at the time I bought my laptop.
