This freaking thing is driving me nuts. I'll be using the laptop, and the display will go out (but if I look close, I can still see that it's on but very very dim).

If I close the lid, then open it, it will flash on, then go out again. Repeating the process a few times might resolve it, at times it will "flicker" and go out, then eventually it will come on normally after closing and opening the lid numerous times.

I figured it was a switch or something, so I went to control panel/power options and set "What do you want the display to do when the lid is closed" and selected DO NOTHING for both battery and line power. This had no effect.

I did a "chat" with HP Tech support and of course got a moron who told me to update the video driver (!! !!). I think this thing will probably have to "go back".

Anyone else seen this issue, or have any other suggestions?

    THANKS

Let it "go back". Sounds like the backlight is failing.

When it has the problem, start fiddling with the button in the vicinity of one of the hinges (far left side?) that gets pressed when the lid rotates as it is closed. There are other posts about this.

Moron or not, IMO, you should update the driver as he suggested, not because it needs it necessarily, but gives the powers-that-be one less reason not to fix/replace your machine in the near future.

Thought I'd let you guys know... this is a well known inverter card problem in the dv9000 series. The backlight looses power. There is nothing you can do. I chatted with HP support <some dude in India> and got frustrated after they had me dance around the computer and pray to a cow. I then took it by BB and the Geek said.. oh yeah.. inverter.. get in line.

Unfortunately, I had to send the laptop into HP, since I ordered it from their Website. So when I called the second time, I just told them that I had a bad inverter and couldn’t see anything on the screen (I lied). So when they asked me to hit control-alt-5-d-2-d-r-t and say moomoo, I simply told them I couldn’t see what I was typing. They sent a box. On the paper I wrote out the real problem.

3 days later I got my laptop back. They replaced the motherboard and the inverter card. The even swapped out the bottom case to make it look all pretty and new again.. since I had cracked it months ago when I dropped it. Everything works now.. I have no problems at all.

Having the same problem with my 9500t. If I open and close the lid a few times it will fix it for awhile.

Sounds like this is a common problem, any chance of a recall?

15 or 20 sec, plug your battery and AC and check your screen
    It worked for me..

Jeez, dv9000 is a lemon when it comes to this display...Had to ship it back after less than a year when it would boot to some greyscale bar-graph. The "details" of the repair:system board, lcd bezel, lcd cover, heatsink fan, and left hinge.
Now it dims but you can see with a flashlight. Tech-chat quoted 300 for service. LET'S RALLY FOR RECALL! I just checked this link tonight:
