so i took out the oem hard drive just to see what the caddy looks like in order to install a second hard drive. i unscrewed the hard drive from the caddy, reinstalled it and the hard drive works fine. my question is, if i buy a 2nd hard drive will it already come with that black adapter? i'm not sure what its called but it connects the hard drive to the mother board. is that adapter only available with the caddy? or am i fine just buying the 2nd hard drive? thanks

Well, you really should use the mounting bracket, to ensure your HDD is falling and bouncing here and there when you move it. You will need an HP Hard Drive kit to get the bracket, which are amazingly overpriced.

Any 2.5" hard drive you purchase will not come with a mounting bracket. I believe you can find other solutions besides the OEM one, do a little looking on ebay and such. Or you can just get it from HP.

or ! you could just accidentally ( not like i did this to my laptop or anything ! :( ) get a magnet from your work badge stuck to the bottom of your laptop, call hp tell them your drive died, and then have them send you a warranty replacement drive ( which comes with another bracket , and then keep both :x

Yes. It's a standard 2.5" SATA drive. Just be sure to get a mounting bracket from HP.
