got this new laptop -DV9000- a little bit ago and love it so far. Biggest pet peeve i'm having is the wireless doesn't work after i go into hibernation (or standby) then wake the computer up later.
The wireless signal claims it connects to my wireless network, but internet explorer does not load a webpage giving me a page can't be found error (for any website).
I can recover the wireless by doing restarting the computer entirely so i'm pretty sure its on the computer end.
so far driver updates, googling, and searching MS knowledge base has not been very fruitfull.
thanks for any help

well, for hibernation or if you cause it to standby, you could just simply turn off the wireless before doing so.
or if you plan on just leaving the laptop on unused for an extended period of time(long enough for it to standby or hibernate) then again, you could just simply turn off the wireless and reactivate it when you need it again. -
That sounds like the broadcom wireless card being an a-hole. My girlfriends DV6253CL does the same thing. Previously we had a ZE4805US which had a Broadcom card which, like yours would not connect correctly after hibernation or standby.
Solution: go on ebay and buy the Intel wifi card for 40 bucks shipped. -
Why to buy a new card if problem is on windows drivers?
Solution for broadcom wireless card, just use broadcom own drivers or softwares.

Don't really want to replace the brand new wireless card in the brand new comptueri'll yell at HP first.

i had tried all that also before posting here without much luck. i thought if i could turn it off prior to windows turing it off i could avoid the problem. Same thing with turning it off/on when in windows. No luck with either. -

checked me device manager and noticed i had INTEL hardware not broadcom. even downloading that driver update has not completely fixed the problem. now i'm at about 50% chance of wireless not working after hibernation. i guess it is some improvement.
I wonder if there will be any improvement with windows vista? -
I just noticed tonight that mine does this same thing. I am going to go driver hunting tomorrow, I think.
-
hmmmm. well i never did find any driver update that would solve the problem. i have noticed that ever since i un-installed Zonealarm the problem has went away. i haven't gotten around to re-installing Zonealarm yet to see if that was what truly caused the problem.
-
Has anyone else figured out any other solutions to this? I had the same problem tonight - but i don't have zone alarm installed. I too have the intel wireless card built in.
-
I've had this problem for almost 2 years now. It is definately connected to the firewall ( I used kaspersky and now Zone Alarm). With Kaspersky and all the new drivers I got some 70% chance that the wireless will work (the LAN, too). Now with a clean install and Zone Alarm (older drivers), I get 0% chance
.
I noticed that I can make the LAN work if I turn on the wireless when I plug in the cable. In this way the Wireless "makes way" and the LAN starts....freakish -
those who have that broadcom card, use that options "Let this tool manage your wireless networks" when using that Broadcomin Wireless LAN Solution.
And maybe there are similar soft for other cards too -
If i shut off the wireless before I let it hibernate, it always comes back immediately.
If i close the cover, connected, it comes back when I open it.(takes a moment to connect)
When it hibernates from an open position, I lose it and requires a reboot.
Before i removed norton, it was worse and no combination I tried seemed to enable it, always required reboot.
YMMV -
My DV9000t running vista ultimate and Norton Internet Security (no Zonealarm) works fine after coming out of hibernated. I did have other wireless issues previously (intermittent dropping of connection), which was resolved by uninstalling HP's wireless connection/assistant software.
I'm wondering if this is an HP software issue as well. Have any of you tried uninstalling HP's software???
On another note, is there any reason to use hibernate. I don't use it (first time to test it was in response to this thread). Going in and out of hibernate seems to take longer than a shutdown or restart. How much benefit is there in using hibernate over sleep or shutting down even??? -
I uninstalled all the HP software save for the bluetooth drivers and the help/support stuff.
As for hibernate - it's interesting it takes you longer to load that than restarting. Hibernate boots up way quicker for me than a fresh boot of vista. In fact I'm fairly disappointed with the load times to start up and shut down vista only because they advertised it being so much quicker than XP.
I personally don't know the difference between sleep and hibernate. Sleep I imagine powers down the hardware more efficiently? -
Sometimes a "renew IP" command will awaken your connection in a situation like this. I have a Compaq where I have to do this sometimes. But the turn off the wireless, standby, turn wireless on sequence usually always works for me.

This is a known problem. The driver update on HP's website fixes it:
Fixes
Provides the following fixes for the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945:
# Fixes intermittent issue where the notebook stops responding (hangs) after resuming from Suspend or Hibernate mode.
However, there is a brand new one available from Intel, so I suggest going here and downloading the latest driver update, then your problems should be gone.
