Okay, I've seen this covered many times before but I want to get to the bottom of it before I shell out money for RAM. Has anyone successfully upgraded their BIOS, installed 4GB of RAM, and gotten WV or W7 to recognize the gains?

For the record, I received this laptop late 2006. It was sent in for repair (hinge crack) over the summer and they pretty much gutted the inside. So I can't say 100% sure if it's still using the same motherboard manufactured in 2006.
